Last weekend, political parties in Suriname officially registered for the upcoming elections in May at the Central Voting Office board. Yesterday, the final list of approved parties was confirmed. 15 parties will participate in the elections on May 25th. On March 25th, the nation will see the faces of all 51 candidates from each party, each presenting their vision for the future of our nation. Each stepping forward, not just to fill a seat, but to claim their place in the unfolding story of Suriname’s future. As one of the few who has publicly declared my candidacy for the Presidency of Suriname, I do so with both pride and purpose. I stand alongside a team strengthened by the same brilliant strategists who helped guide María Corina Machado, leaders who understand what it means to fight for freedom when the system itself is your greatest obstacle. But this moment did not begin with a campaign announcement. My journey began long before, as a political activist and a citizen who refused to stay silent. In April 2024, I publicly announced my intention to run for office, while exposing massive corruption at the highest levels of government. This decision was not without consequence. After working with Samson Mow and Jan3 on Nation-State Bitcoin adoption in 2023, my whistleblowing triggered threats against my life and a clear warning to stay out of the media or face the consequences. For months, I carried that weight, facing not only the threats, but the fear that comes with challenging the powerful. But in October 2024, I made a choice: to step back into the light, to speak the truth, and to fight alongside the people of Suriname for a future we all deserve. This is more than a campaign. It is the dawn of a defining chapter in our history. A chance to break the cycle of corruption, to rise above division, and to end the legacy of broken promises that has held our nation hostage for generations. Every name on those lists will carry more than a title. They will carry the fragile hopes of a people who have endured, who have waited, who still believe that dignity, justice, and opportunity are within reach. With that privilege comes an unshakable duty, to serve not personal ambition, not party loyalty, but the people. Every child, every mother, every worker, every elder. This race is not just for power. This race is for the soul of Suriname. It is for every citizen who dares to believe that this time, we can do better. That the future can be built by all of us, for all of us. The people will decide. The people will rise. The future belongs to all of us. The work begins now. And at the heart of it all is Bitcoin, our path to economic freedom, our tool to break the chains of corruption, and our opportunity to separate money from state once and for all.
