Just when you thought the clueless #meckbocc could not get any lower. It is simply stunning that, after failing to read a consent agenda in 2024, its members remain incapable of demonstrating even a modicum of responsibility. That's all they had to do, read. And lead. But this is the state of governance lately in Mecklenburg County, where its board members would rather gaslight than solve their self-inflicted problems. Thankfully, Commissioner Powell is leaving the board after her current term expires. If she had an ounce of self-respect, she would apologize to her constituents and all Mecklenburg County for such a tasteless and insulting comparison. Domestic violence is nothing to make light of, yet here we are. Our state's second most populous county will be better off once Commissioner Powell is finally off the board. Until then, her final term is marked by shame, and her legacy is in tatters.
@JoeBrunoWSOC9 Furious Leigh Altman be like
@JoeBrunoWSOC9 You know what else is offensive? Clueless board members who are unaware of a $14.6 million transaction. Remember, Mecklenburg voters, you get the government you deserve. (See also: Altman, Leigh). #meckbocc
Wait, the commissioner is furious that the board she purports to lead as vice chair wasn't aware of this transaction? Well, she doesn't know how NCDOT's STIP works so it shouldn't be a surprise that local matters involving our state's second most populous county escape her grasp, too. Remember, Mecklenburg voters, you get the government you deserve. (See also: Schools, Charlotte-Mecklenburg).
Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden will outline his plans tomorrow to reopen Jail North. Phase 1 calls for 224 beds and no new staff members. #MeckBOCC is expected to vote on a budget amendment but no additional funds are needed at this time. The daily population of the jail averaged more than 2,100 in August. It was about 1,500 in July 2025

@CBJnewsroom @DOT_Trogdon Do you know what else Vice Chair Altman should be "livid" about? 160,000+ vehicles idling in gridlock through the heart of our state's largest city 🤷♂️

As part of their practice facility project, Tepper Sports and Entertainment donated $100K to Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation. #MeckBOCC voted to accept the donation last night. The county says the funds will be used to make improvements to Uptown's Frazier Park including:
• Pathway resurfacing and connectivity improvements
• Installation of outdoor fitness equipment to promote health and wellness
• Placement of new park benches to increase comfort and accessibility

Why I voted @YesforMeck this week:
YES is a vote for safer roads, better busses, and a more effective transit system.
Waiting on a “better” plan could take years.
We can vote no and get the status quo, or vote yes and work together to make it the best.
