Civilians:
As much as combat is a big part of our society, another important part is our living history, and with that comes all sorts of civilian impressions.
I love seeing all the different colours and choices of attire.

Day 7 of #medievalmay
Silly:
As serious as we look sometimes during a show, our main priority, of course, is to have fun.
We love making memes and getting up to all kinds of shenanigans.
Day 6 of #medievalmay
Relaxation:
Reenactment can be very tiring, from doing craft, to fighting.
Some down time is always needed during a day.
Some of my favourite moments in a show are being huddled round a fire, sharing stories, and playing games.

Castle:
Our reenactment society travels all around the UK, going from show to show.
What really makes our shows stand out in my mind are the venues...Castles!
Having the backdrop of a genuine medieval castle makes it all feel so connected to history.

Cooking:
Here at shows, we have to accommodate many people on encampment.
Several hearths are burning to make sure everyone gets fed, especially to for those fighting all day.
We use authentic ingredients that would he available in our period!

Encampment:
At shows, we typically sleep in authentic tents. Usually representing our impressions or military rank.
This, for example, is a high-end military setup. With a full-on bed and space for weapons and armour.

I've only been a professional historical person (this being my main/only form of income) since the beginning of April, but so far I'm doing well with bookings and have had good feedback, so watch this space!

Those interactions are great fun & rewarding, which gets me up & dressing in funny clothes (that and getting to sleep in castles!)

It isn’t every day that you get #BehindTheScenes but for #MedievalMay here you are - deep into the kit mines (or having a glance inside the garage)
It’s exhausting keeping track of everything!
For me it’s the #SmallDetails that really bring a person to life, the things in your pocket, the things you wear, the repairs to a garment – or the embroidery that makes it a bit special.

Fairly short one for #MedievalMay - today's prompt is #Weapons so here is a very short sequence featuring three of my favourites from yesterday's training - spear, sword, and big, fun axe!
There is something jolly about an axe fight :D
I'm sadly not very skilled with a needle, but I have flirted with a bit of #Embroidery (because it really can bring an outfit to life or add a touch of class to something otherwise ordinary), so for #MedievalMay here are some (both) of my attempts!
Day 20 and we’re asked about #Relaxation for #MedievalMay – well, I always bring games, crafts, and enough things to be comfortable when I am not actively doing something else…so what comforts and relaxing activities can you see in these camp set ups?
#MedievalMay gives me the prompt of #Improvement, and its something we can all spend time doing, so here is one of my first outings as a barber-surgeon and some rather more recent ones. Can you spot how things have got better?
