Nov 8, 1970 - #JimBarnett becomes the first @trailblazers player to score 40 points in a game.
Playing before a then record crowd of 10,259 fans in the #MemorialColiseum to see the defending @NBA Champion @nyknicks, Barnett connected on 15-of-26 FGA and 10-of-12 FTA.
Off the bench, #StanMcKenzie and #GeoffPetrie helped Barnett, scoring 21 and 20 points. For the #Blazers, playing in their 13th game, it is the third time three players topped 20 points in the same game.
For the #Knicks, @WaltFrazier recorded the 15th triple-double of his career, scoring 28 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists. #WillisReed matched Frazier in scoring and grabbed a game-high 26 rebounds.

Nov. 3, 1973 - The @trailblazers largest crowd ever witnessed the Blazers defeat the defending @NBA Champions, @nyknicks.
In front of #MemorialColiseum record 12,086 fans, the first time the Blazers ever topped the 12K mark, #GeoffPetrie and #SidneyWicks each scored 21 points, with #RickRoberson adding 20 points and 13 rebounds.
It is the 43rd time, and the fourth in the first 10 games of the 1973/74 season, that four players topped the 20 point mark. #JohnJohnson nearly made it the second game with four players, as he scored 19 points.
Wicks and #LarrySteele each passed for 7 assists while rookie guard #BernieFryer was credited with 4 steals, his career-best to date.
#DaveDeBusschere led #NewYork with 23 points. @WaltFrazier, who scored a career-high 44 points last night in the #Knicks victory at the @Lakers, scored 18 points today. Frazier did match Wicks and Steele with game high honors in assists.

October 8 1976 - The @nuggets #DavidThompson provided some excitement for the 7,718 @trailblazers fans at the #MemorialColiseum when he shattered the glass backboard with a dunk midway thru the fourth quarter.
Thompson, the #ABA #ROY winner last year. suffered minor cuts upon his face and body from the flying glass. While not serious, he did not return to the game. “I’m okay (but) I just had bits of glass inside my uniform and some penetrated the skin." Thompson finished with a team-high 18 points in 22 minutes.
It took 34 minutes for the Memorial Coliseum crew to replace the board before the game could resume.
#BillWalton and #MauriceLucas led the #Blazers with 19 and 18 points respectfully, as well as in rebounds with 12 and 10.

August 26, 1982 - The 2nd Annual @TheNBPA Golf & Tennis Classic tipped off with a good ol' fashioned double-header at the #MemorialColiseum.
In the first game, featuring first and second year @NBA players, former @BeaverMBB guard #MarkRadford scored 32 points but it wasn't enough as his Blue Team fell to the Green Team led by #MichaelWiley, who scored 33 points.
The contest featured another @OregonState alum in #LesterConner, who tallied 8 points for the Green Team. @trailblazers rookie @phattime12 added 15 points for the winning side.
The nightcap saw former @OregonMBB #GregBallard score 19 points, helped by @trailblazers guard #JimPaxson, who added 17 points, as the White Squad defeated the Red Team. The Red Team was led by #JamesEdwards 23 points with #DanRoundfield adding 22 more. #Blazers guard #BillyRayBates scored 14 points in the familiar red.
Lever pulled double duty as he grabbed a Red jersey and added 13 more in the second game.

August 25, 1982 - The 2nd Annual @TheNBPA Players Golf and Tennis Classic will start tomorrow, tipping off with an All-Star double-header at the #MemorialColiseum.
The first game will feature first and second year @NBA players, including @PortlandPilots guard #JoseSlaughter and former @BeaverMBB players #RayBlume and #MarkRadford. The second game will feature more experienced pros, including @trailblazers #JimPaxson and #BillyRayBates.
Over 50 #NBA players are scheduled to compete in the two-day Golf tournament at #ProgressDowns. #Blazers small forward #BobGross won the event last year at #RockCreekCountryClub. #Portland forwards @champagnennuts and #KennyCarr are scheduled to tee off between 8 and 10 am on August 28.
In addition, on August 27, there will be a Softball game at #CivicStadium and a Tennis Challenge at the #WesternRacquetClub. The Tennis Challenge features many retired players, including former Blazers #TerryDischinger, #DarrellImhoff, and @Celtics legend #SamJones.

July 26, 1983 - The @trailblazers annual Rookie Game was played in front of 6,426 fans at the #MemorialColiseum, with the Red Team defeating the White Team, 83-77.
After the game, #Portland coach #JackRamsay announced that eight of the 17 players will be invited to be part of the #Blazers coming #SummerLeague team in #LosAngeles.
#JohnSmith, who led all players with 25 points and a game high 6 assists and 4 steals, was a surprise selection to travel south. Smith played in the #CBA last season and @ArizonaMBB from 1977 to 81.
Others selected are guards #TimDunham from #Chaminade and #PaulLittle of @Penn; centers #PéturGuðmundsson of @UW, #TomPiotrowski of @LaSalleUniv, and #GranvilleWaiters of @OhioState; and forwards #KevinMcKenna of @Creighton and #DerrickPope of @UMGRIZZLIES.
#ClydeDrexler will attend the Summer League session despite not having signed a contract as yet.

July 10, 1984 - The @trailblazers Rookie camp concluded with a tight, competitive game that ended on a last-second shot by rookie #SteveColter to give the White Team an 85-84 win against the Red Team in front of 3,071 fans at the #MemorialColiseum.
Colter, a second round pick from @nmsu, finished with 20 points and earned a spot on the #Blazers #SummerLeague roster. #DanCaldwell of @UW added 16 more points and 10 rebounds for the White squad and will join Colter in Los Angeles. Tony Brown of @IUHoosiers led all scorers with 23 points, but was not invited to join the summer squad.
For the RedTeam, @JeromeKersey25 from @longwoodu and #TimDunham of @SwordsMBB each scored 14 points and earned roster spots in Los Angeles as well. A surprise player to earn a run in the #SummerLeague is #LanceBall who attended @WesternOregonU. Ball averaged 15.7 points and 9.6 rebounds for the #NAIA #Wolves.
Before the main event, a team of Ex-#Portland players took on a team of former @SeattleSonics players, with the #SuperSonics pulling out the win, with a little help.
The #Sonics only had four players show up so former #Blazers forward #GregSmith joined #SlickWatts, #LeonardGray, #HenryAkin, and #TalSkinner.
The #Portland team consisted of #LaRueMartin, #DannyAnderson, #LarrySteele, #LeRoyEllis, and #DarrallImhoff.
Most likely, this is the first Blazers Alumni game, but @blazercollector would know that answer. The team would travel around Oregon and help raise for money for various charitable organizations for manny years.

June 29 1978 - #KeithHerron scored 27 points in the annual @trailblazers Rookie game, leading the White team to an 86-68 victory over the Red team in front of 9,921 fans at the #MemorialColiseum.
Herron, a 2nd round pick of the #Blazers from @VillanovaU, connected on 11 of 16 FGA and snagged 6 rebounds. #RonBrewer, the Blazers second first round pick from @UArkansas, added 17 points and was 7 of 12 FGA while grabbing 7 rebounds.
For the Red team, #MarkWickman of @LinfieldUniv and #GaryBrewster of @UTEP, each scored 14 points.

June 19, 1971 - The second game of a back-to-back between the I-5 rivals proved successful at both venues.
After 11,500 fans watched the teams in Seattle, 9,714 fans attended the rematch in the #Portland #MemorialColiseum.
The @trailblazers rookie #SidneyWicks followed up his 34 point, 15 rebound performance in #Seattle with 33 points and 19 rebounds today, helping the #Blazers to split the two games with the @SeattleSonics rookie team.
#BillSmith, the 7'1" center from @Cuse_MBB, scored 10 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in 28 minutes. #HectorBlondet from @RacersHoops scored 11 points. #CharlieYelverton of @FordhamNYC was the only other #Portland player in double digits with 10 points.
#SpencerHaywood missed this game, as he had a scheduled obligation, but #MichaelJordan, who played with @univpugetsound, followed his 16 point, 10 rebound game yesterday with a 21 point, 12 rebounds today. #PembrookBurrows, who played alongside #ArtisGilmore at @JacksonvilleU, finished with 23 points and 16 rebounds.
#StuInman, the Blazers lead scout, believes six to eight of the 12 players will be invited to the fall camp. A decision of who will be invited will be made within a week.

May 19, 1990 - With a nod towards @NBAHistory, the @trailblazers earned their first trip to the #WCF in 13 years, defeating the @spurs in a tense OT Game 7.
When he made his entrance just moments before the 12:30 Saturday afternoon tip-off, the crowd in the #MemorialColiseum rose, ala the crowd in the @TheGarden on May 8, 1970, and #KevinDuckworth put the #Blazers faithful on his back and into the game.
Duckworth, who had been sidelined since he suffered a broken hand in Game 3 vs the @dallasmavs three weeks prior, finished with 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists but it was his presence in the middle that made the biggest impression.
@terryporter30, who had a crucial steal with :05 seconds in OT, scored 36 points and passed for 9 assists, to lead #Portland. His starting backcourt mate #ClydeDrexler scored 22 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, and passed for 8 assists.
#BuckWilliams and @JeromeKersey25 each gabbed 15 rebounds, marking the first time in Blazers PO history that two players grabbed 15 rebounds in the same game. With Drexler getting 13 more, it marks the eighth time that three teammates gathered 10 or more boards in a PO game.

April 30, 1988 - @trailblazers legend #MauriceLucas played his last game in front of the #Blazers faithful at the #MemorialColiseum.
Lucas struggled from the field vs the @utahjazz, going 0-for-4 from the field and finished with 1 point, but he did gather a team-high 14 rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench. Lucas played 330 games with #Portland for a total of 4 1/2 season and 14 years overall in the #ABA and the @NBA. Lucas would move up the bench the following year, joining the staff of Portland coach #MikeSchuler for the 1988/89 season.
In his first run with the Blazers, Lucas helped the team to the 1977 @NBA Title and was selected to the #NBA All-Star Games in 1977, 78, and 79. and was on the 1978 All-NBA Second team. Lucas was also named to the All-Defensive teams in 1978 and 1979.
#ClydeDrexler led the Blazers today with 25 points and secured a PO career-high 6 steals, two shy of the team record set by @LionelHollins14 in 1977. @terryporter30 and #KevinDuckworth each added 19 points, while #JeromeKersey scored 17. #RichardAnderson came off the bench to add 14 more.
#KarlMalone had a then PO career-high with 37 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. Malone would top the point total six days later when the @utahjazz eliminated the Blazers in 3 games to 1.
#BobHansen added 23 points while #JohnStockton scored 20 and passed for 13 assists. #MarkEaton blocked 6 shots and grabbed 13 rebounds.

April 7, 1989 - #KevinDuckworth scored 28 points to lead the @trailblazers passed the @celtics in a fight-marred event at the #MemorialColiseum.
Duckworth, who also grabbed 9 rebounds, was helped by @terryporter30, who scored 24 points, and #ClydeDrexler who added 21 more. In addition, Porter passed for 11 assists while Drexler had 8.
#Blazers forward #MarkBryant and #Boston center #JoeKleine fought briefly in the second quarter, each getting a swing in before tumbling to the ground. Kleine was ejected while Bryant left the game due to a fractured thumb, which will sideline him for the remainder of his rookie season.
In other news, @FIBA voted to allow @NBA players to compete in the @Olympics in 1992. #Portland Pres. #HarryGlickman has said that if any Portland players are invited to tryouts, they would be given permission.
In addition, with professionals allowed to play, speculation is that the Blazers will look to make another run at signing @ArvydasSabonis to a contract.

March 13 1970 - The name of the new @NBA team that #Portland was granted on February 6 was officially announced prior to the @SeattleSonics / @nyknicks game at the #MemorialColiseum.
After hearing the name, the 11,029 fans decided they did not like the name @trailblazers and booed. At the conclusion of the game, when the PA announced to come back in the fall and see the "Portland Trail Blazers," the booing seemed louder.
