Should there be trained mental health professionals in SARC teams, or should all sexual assault referral centre staff have basic mental health skills? #MiMoSstudy
The @astudyMimos national survey of sexual assault referral centres #SARCs found very varied support offered for mental health & substance use:
- signpost/referral
- 6 week follow-up calls
- very varied "counselling"
- co-located psychotherapy (trauma therapy, EMDR)

So, we've discussed awareness and assessment so far at this #MiMoSstudy event. Now it's time to move on to thinking through what after-care is offered by SARCs for people who experience mental health and substance use difficulties.
What role do you think SARCs should play?

The @astudyMimos found limited evidence of the use of validated mental health or substance use screening tools in SARCs.
The prevalence study of 78 attendees found:
- 64% reported they had a MH difficulty
- 94% had symptoms of PTSD
The #MiMoSstudy found that most survivors of sexual assault had not hear about Sexual Assault Referral Centres before.
How can general awareness of SARCs be improved?
What about confidentiality and privacy? How can these agencies work well together whilst maintaining privacy? #MiMoSstudy
First impressions matter!
Survivors said that the way the SARC staff treated them made a difficult thing bearable. One survivor described it as “life-changing.”
