July 4, 1979 - #MickeyFox, the third round pick from @smuhalifax, is excited about his coming tryout with the @trailblazers, even if his draft status was ruled ineligible. Fox played for #StMarys from 1971 to 1975, leading the #Huskies to the CIAU Title in 1973, scoring 39 points in the title game. He averaged 22 points in his four years in Halifax, returning for a fifth year during the 1978/79 season and another title. Fox scored 101 points over three games in the 1979 tournament, including 37 points in the title game vs #Victoria and was named the #MVP. The play during that fifth season caught the eye of Blazers assistant coach #JackMcKinney, prompting Portland to select him in the draft last month, which eventually jogged a memory or two. Fox was initially drafted by the @DetroitPistons in the 10th round in 1975 but never made an appearance with the #Pistons. Most forgot about that selection until recently. Fox now enters the Rookie/FA camp with Free Agent status instead of a third round selection. #RipCity #ThisDateinBlazersHistory #OTD
