Microchimerism is not just cell migration.
It is a persistent inter-system coupling.
We introduce ε — a measurable residual from gestation that governs long-term persistence, independent of localization dynamics.
A new physical quantity in biology?

A fetuses stem cells can get into a mother’s blood and can stay there the rest of her life and cause #microchimerism which may be responsible for autoimmune and other diseases.
I have written about how this happens with transfusion as well. https://t.co/5qnehb4la5
The biology behind this is wilder than the tweet makes it sound.
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center autopsied 59 women's brains. 63% had male DNA from sons they carried decades earlier. The oldest woman with her son's cells still in her brain was 94. Those cells had crossed the blood-brain barrier, spread across multiple brain regions, and were still alive.
But here's the part that rewrites the framing. The exchange runs in both directions. During pregnancy, cells cross the placenta from mother to fetus AND from fetus to mother. Your mother's cells seeded into your brain while you were still developing. Your cells seeded into hers. Both lineages can persist for the rest of each person's life.
A 1996 study found male fetal progenitor cells persisting in maternal blood 27 years after delivery. A 2022 Nature Communications paper went further: maternal cells in the fetal brain aren't just surviving. They're functional. They regulate microglia, prevent excessive synaptic pruning, and actively shape the neural circuits that wire prefrontal cortex to hippocampus. Remove them in mice and brain development measurably suffers.
The real question microchimerism raises is what "self" means at the cellular level. Your immune system is trained to attack foreign cells. These cells carry someone else's DNA. And your body not only tolerates them, it appears to have evolved mechanisms to keep them alive and working for decades.
You are, biologically, a mosaic of every pregnancy your mother carried and every child you will carry. The cells don't ask permission. They just integrate.

Assimilation of male cells, multiple DNA traces into the foetus from the men she has slept with or orally swallowed their sperms
Did you know?
It is possible for a woman to become pregnant by two different men and give birth to twins with two different fathers

MICROCHIMERISM: Why Virginity Is Important
The sperm is more than just a fluid, it is a container of genetic information. Meaning when a man ejaculates in a woman, he leaves behind DNA that is stored inside the woman and shared if she gets pregnant. If she aborts, more information is stored
Scientists call this phenomena MICROCHIMERISM, there have being done on this phenomena and the results have been mind blowing
For example, the more a woman has sex with a particular man, the woman's DNA changes to mimic that of the man to a certain extent. This probably explains why, when a couple has been together for a long time, they end up looking alike
Another example, when a woman has DNA traces of many men inside her, she starts to change in her behavior and mannerisms as well, because her cells are changing. This probably explains why prostitutes tend to have all kinds of traits, it's due to having slept with many men
Another example, isn't it weird that one child in a particular family can be just totally different from others in behavior and mannerisms. You will ask yourself why that particular child is a thief/promiscuous/violent/mentally challenged yet in your family there's never been anyone like that
The truth is women retain DNA from every man they have slept with. This means these other male cells will be assimilated into the foetus when the woman gets pregnant
It gets even more interesting, that your woman who loves swallowing, if she did swallow another man's sperms before yours, it's worse. If sperm gets in the mouth, it ends up in the nasal areas, behind the eyes and ears. It then enters the bloodstream and then collects in the brain and spine. It becomes part of her forever
Now think about this, that woman of yours you didn't find a virgin, she has another man's DNA inside her brain and spine. On top of that, those other men's DNA is going to be passed on your children
There's a reason why our forefathers demanded that as a man you marry a virgin, so as not to pollute the family gene pool. Our forefathers were not backward, rather they were far ahead of their time. Think about this anytime you're marrying a woman you didn't find a virgin
Learn OR perish!!!

This is why pregnancy time for a woman is very important. #microchimerism
God's miracles:
“When pregnant, the cells of the baby migrate into the mothers bloodstream and then circle back into the baby, it’s called “fetal-maternal microchimerism”.
For 41 weeks, the cells circulate and merge backwards and forwards, and after the baby is born, many of these cells stay in the mother’s body, leaving a permanent imprint in the mothers tissues, bones, brain, and skin, and often stay there for decades. Every single child a mother has afterwards will leave a similar imprint on her body, too.
Even if a pregnancy doesn't go to full term or if you have an abortion, these cells still migrate into your bloodstream.
Research has shown that if a mother's heart is injured, fetal cells will rush to the site of the injury and change into different types of cells that specialize in mending the heart.
The baby helps repair the mother, while the mother builds the baby.
Truly beautiful.
This is why certain illnesses vanish while pregnant.
It’s incredible how mothers bodies protect the baby at all costs, and the baby protects & rebuilds the mother back - so that the baby can develop safely and survive.
Studies have also shown cells from a fetus in a mothers brain 18 years after she gave birth.
Through pregnancy, it appears the mother gains cells that may have therapeutic potential. Fetal microchimerism contributes to the mother's ability to repair damaged or unhealthy tissue, which may be of relevance for long-term maternal health, regulation of ageing and control of longevity. Future human studies of fetal microchimerism must focus on characterizing the fetal cell type involved, resolving the debate on which stem cell type is responsible and also establishing the competitive advantage of fetal stem cells over the endogenous adult stem cell population.
The pregnancy-acquired low-grade chimeric state of women could have far-reaching implications, influencing recovery after injury or surgery, ageing, graft survival after transplantation, survival after cancer as well as deciding the protective effect of pregnancy against diseases later in life. Lifelong persistence of fetal cells in maternal tissues may even explain why women live longer than men.

🤰🧬👶 Amazing new work suggesting fetal #microchimerism hangs around after pregnancy and is impt for maternal immune modulation BUT younger sib cells displace the older sib microchimerism in subsequent pregnancy 🤯
