Today in 1909, Paleontologist #CharlesWalcott was at the end of his year's fieldwork in the Canadian Rockies of British Columbia when he found the #BurgessShale, a formation teeming with the fossils of soft-bodied organisms from the #MiddleCambrian period (508 million years old).
An Elrathia kingii from the red beds, a bit west of the famous and prolific Antelope Springs Wheeler Shale fossil locality.
These 505 million year old beauties are often found in jewelry.
