June 12, 1990 - Down 2-games-to-1, the @trailblazers nearly came away with the miracle shot in the #NBAFinals. A 35-foot attempt by #Blazers guard #DannyYoung went through the net as the buzzer sounded seemed to force OT, as @NBA referee #MikeMathis signaled the shot good. Players on both teams immediately reacted; the Blazers believing the game was headed to OT, and the #Pistons believing the shot came too late. @NBAOfficial #EarlStrom, calling his final @NBA game after 29 years, huddled with fellow #NBA referees #HughEvans and Mathis, and they determined that the shot was too late, pushing #Portland into a 3-games-to-1 deficit. Leading to that moment, the two teams traded points and the lead over the final half minute. #ClydeDrexler connected on two FTA to put the Blazers up 107-106 with 31.8 seconds, but just as quickly, the lead disappeared after a #IsiahThomas jumper, and two FT put #Detroit back on top 110-107 with 8.4 seconds showing. After a quick foul by #MarkAguirre, @terryporter30 connected on his 2 FTA to pull #Portland back to within a point, at 110- 109, but the Pistons again pushed the lead as #GeraldHenderson connected on an easy layup and a 112–109 lead with 1.8 seconds left. The Blazers quickly inbounded and ran the ball up the court where Young connected on his 35-footer from the right sideline as the buzzer sounded. Young believed the shot too late as well, but was hoping the referees would count it. "It was the biggest basket I almost made," Young said afterwards. "I couldn't hear the horn and I couldn't see the clock. I was just trying to get as close as I could." Drexler scored 34 points and #JeromeKersey had a then PO career-best 33 points. It is the second time two Portland players topped 30 points in a PO game. Drexler added 10 assists and 8 rebounds. #RipCity #ThisDateinBlazersHistory #OTD
