Mini #Minawi’s decision to depict his fighters as a neutral force capable of inserting a sort of buffer btwn the RSF & the SAF, is benign news for Burhan — while hostile to Hemedti. Minawi still has many 1,000s of fighters on #Libyan soil. Their posture towards Hemedti’s friends may well begin to change slowly, given that the usual Sudanese equilibrium is now shattered. In all cases, the growing disorder & violence inside Sudan definitely call for greater illicit-activity volumes.

This would seem to be another effort to whitewash the role of #RSF in extending the #Darfur genocide, beginning with its creation in 2013. #Minawi seems content to accommodate the effort—and RSF generally—in his continuing lust for power and abandoning of the people of Darfur.

It’s clear from this report that #Minawi’s SLA/MM and #Gibril Ibrahim’s #JEM—supposedly “signatory groups”—have their own agendas for #Sudan/#Darfur and are furthering those agendas whatever the threat to civilians in Darfur. Moreover, their collusion with the junta is despicable

It’s difficult to imagine a worse choice than Minni #Minawi to be Wali of #Darfur: he lies, he’s corrupt, and he’s a coward: he would never confront the armed elements that looted property of #WFP and #UNAMID. He is cooperating with the junta, despite his claims in this dispatch.

"Governor" Minni #Minawi's response to this ongoing & large-scale violence has been merely to "condemn.” His tweet of yesterday—in which he expressed his "condemnation"—was greeted with scorn, derision, and anger by #Sudan-ese everywhere, especially #Darfur. He is utterly useless

The reality of #Sudancoup politics by the gun. The junta justify their rule by the gun and their allies-for now - Minnawi of the SLA - clearly threatens, if "our deal with the military fails it is total war ..we are people with armies". The disdain in his tone for FFC is worrying

Given reports from the ground in North #Darfur, providing security for civilians during this planting season will be a serious challenge. It doesn’t help that so many Darfuris in the region despise #Minawi for past actions, including his solitary signing of disastrous 2006 #DPA.

What will the people of Darfur make of the decision to elevate #Minawi to this senior position? Many will recall that it was Minawi who was sole rebel signatory to the disastrous 2006 Darfur Peace Agreement (#DPA)—and then became a very senior official in the al-#Bashir regime.

Let’s recall that #Minawi “broke away” from the other rebel representatives during the #Abuja (Nigeria) peace talks of 2006 and became a “vice president” in the al-#Bashir regime, ending any chance for real unity in the struggle against the regime’s genocidal campaign in #Darfur.
