In 1907, this corner of Oak Street was at the ❤️of Calumet—a place where neighbors gathered, families worshiped, and traditions were built. Today only St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church is active.

Between 1893 and 1900, a 2-story wooden commercial building was built on Duncan Ave in Hubbell to house a saloon. It was added onto for a drugstore and upstairs apartments. By 1935, the U.S. Post Office used the first floor. Today, its upper level is #MissingintheCopperCountry.
In this instance my friend and frequent collaborator @RedJacketette found the answer. Her #MissingintheCopperCountry series for the @KeweenawNPS locates missing buildings and locations within the Copper Country. (14/20)

The Palestra was built in 1904 at the southeast corner of Third and Isle Royale Streets in Laurium. The 265' by 124' ice rink opened its natural-ice surface on December 16, 1904 with a professional hockey game between the Portage Lake and Calumet teams. #MissingintheCopperCountry
