This includes the multiple fire incidents in #Misterei, West Darfur, that have occurred since fighting broke out in Sudan on April 15, 2023. 1/5🚨#SudanWitness | Villages in Darfur continue to be burned. In October, Misterei, West Darfur, was damaged by fire for the 2nd time since #Sudan's armed conflict began in April 2023. This is visible in @planet imagery showing a patch of burnt land and smoke plumes on Oct 14.

3/5 #Misterei had previously been affected by large-scale fire damage in late May/early June 2023, as shown in the Sentinel-2 false colour timelapse below. Damage was observed throughout town, including the area where CIR observed the more recent fire damage this month.

2/5 #Misterei fires were also seen on Oct 9. A timelapse using Sentinel-2 imagery shows scorched earth in residential areas and a football field near the town centre. Further damage was observed in imagery captured on Oct 16, processed here in red to highlight the fire damage.

We were told this video was shared on a RSF WhatsApp group. It shows #Misterei being razed on the 1st June. Using a racist slur, the person filming brags that “what goes around comes around.”

The Misterei Massacre. 28th May, people were hiding in a school in Misterei, #WestDarfur as RSF & Arab Militia closed in. Tonight @Channel4News, pics & video show #Misterei being razed & eye witnesses explain how over 50 people were killed in the school, 28 summarily executed

5/10,000s of survivors from #Misterei fled to #Chad. Since April, 300,000+ have been displaced within West #Darfur, and 200,000+ fled to #Chad. Yet the humanitarian response is underfunded, & aid access to West Darfur remains significantly restricted.

4/Refugees from other parts of West #Darfur described similar atrocities. Sat imagery & fire detection data shows that six other towns and villages besides #Misterei, including #Molle, #Murnei, and #Gokor, burned down since April.
