The dangerous trend of politically backed #mobs dictating terms in #Bangladesh's universities, such as forcing students and academics to resign at will, began under the #Yunus-led Interim Government; but it remains alive and well under the #BNP Government of Prime Minister #TariqueRahman.
Last Tuesday, around 50–60 activists from the #BNP and its affiliated orgs, Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal and Jatiyatabadi Tanti Dal, stormed the office of Professor Jawadul Haque, Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi Medical University (RMU).
They assaulted the VC and his personal secretary, Nazmul Hossain, before forcing them to sign resignation letters.

But politically backed mobs are not the only threat to academic freedom in Bangladesh. University administrations, increasingly dominated by ruling-party loyalists, are also implicated in politically motivated persecution and harassment of their own colleagues.
At Dhaka University, for instance, at least nine teachers and admin high officials were suspended and/or relieved of their duties in three separate phases between June and October 2026 because they did not support the July–August 2024 protests.
From ruling-party activists storming vice-chancellors’ offices and coercing them into resigning to university officials targeting colleagues at the behest of their political patrons, Bangladesh’s higher education sector is experiencing one of its darkest periods.
Academic freedom, institutional independence, and the right to education are increasingly being undermined by exclusion, coercion and intimidation.

You can never have too many plushies. Soon every single vanilla mob will have one of ours. Then more mobs. Then different poses for the plushies. Plaaaans.
Plenty of Mobs hotfix goes in for review today: spawning and plenty more. Changelog when it lands.
