For people who have great mobility, it is even more important to focus on the quality of movement or exercise. #movewithFMS
I use the Motor Control Screen (MCS) as much in a clinical setting as I do in group fitness settings – but for the exact same reason: To see if their neurological system liked the intervention I just made.
If they are improving balance, don’t you want to know?

A single-leg deadlift is a great activity for someone who needs to focus on stability. If the person continues to struggle go down to a lower posture position like half-kneeling and perform stability activities from there. #movewithFMS

We should always set a baseline for movement, lifestyle, or program we wish to improve. Once we do we can focus on the one area that needs the most help. Too often we don't recheck and don't get the proper feedback we need to continue tweaking our recommendations. #movewithFMS
To seek change it is always a good idea to create some awareness of where a weakness may be. For this example, not only is this providing a good way to increase core activation, but it is also highlighting asymmetries or difficulties in certain areas or movements. #movewithFMS

Using a balance beam or even walking on a straight line is one of the best ways to train balance. Too often people train balance by standing on an unstable surface, however, that can be too overwhelming & not create the best training environment for balance problems. #movewithFMS
Too often we try to correct movement patterns from standing and using cues to coach people into a correct movement. However, using the original system that worked to create movement, starting from the ground up like we all did as babies can often work better. #movewithFMS
It is always good practice to pick an exercise that can accomplish different things. If a person has a bad squat which can be because of poor upper body mobility, this activity can be used to improve both. Avoid too much cueing and let the band provide the feedback. #movewithFMS
Most people don't see the importance of a movement screen until actually going through it. By uncovering difficulty and asymmetries in some of these simple patterns it will create an awareness opportunity for the individual. #movewithFMS
