#TodaysHero_128 #IrishRanger #PaulMuirhead, who was part of a deployment of approximately 100 #British troops to #MusaQala in 2006 formed part of the UK’s effort to extend the authority of the #Afghanistan government into #Helmand Province. Their mission was to establish a district presence, support local governance, and provide security for the population. A key #military objective was to interdict #Taliban movement and operations—disrupting the insurgents’ ability to move fighters, weapons, ammunition, and supplies through the district. By holding Musa Qala, British forces sought to deny the Taliban a strategic sanctuary, gather intelligence, and create the conditions for reconstruction and development. However, the small garrison soon came under sustained attack from large Taliban forces, leading to one of the most intense and prolonged sieges of the British campaign in Afghanistan.
During this time there were over 100 enemy attacks resulting in 12 wounded and 3 British soldiers killed.

I spent 21 yrs in the regular & reserve army and a good part of my life in camps such as #NapierBarracks. Additionally, I spent 27 months in Helmand, 24 of them #MusaQala in a US Marine Corps Forward Operating Base
#NapierBarracks is plenty good enough them
