Here is the data we unveiled at our online #NCRPLive discussion. @NCRP Rearch Director @r_j_schlegel analyzed publicly avaialble 2012-2016 domestic data and detailed how Bloomberg’s philanthropy stacks up against the giving of other living billionaires. https://t.co/btS8VdGSeH
Big thanks to @Yahktoe @MsLaToshaBrown and @DavidCallahanIP for joining our #ncrplive conversation about Bloomberg's philanthropy! Stay tuned for the recording and for the data analysis presented at the top of the show. @NCRP
This is an opportunity to have a conversation about wealth and capitalism, wealth inequities, etc. -- @MsLaToshaBrown #MoneyPowerPolitics #NCRPlive
We could see the billionaire election as another indicator America has gone to hell in a handbasket, OR we could start a real conversation about how to democratize wealth in this country. @MsLaToshaBrown

We need to lower our expectations about what philanthropy can do. Black Lives Matter didn't come from mega-donors. Neither did Occupy Wall Street. Billionaires aren't going to be allies in transforming society. @DavidCallahanIP

Billionaires are unlikely to be strong allies in converting to a just society. -- @DavidCallahanIP #MoneyPowerPolitics #NCRPlive
.@DavidCallahanIP points out rightly it's not an either/or proposition. Bloomberg could very easily do both!!!

Imagine if all of Bloomberg's commercials had messages about voter suppression, educating people about issues, etc. instead of clips of playing golf with Obama? -- @MsLaToshaBrown #MoneyPowerPolitics #NCRPlive
"What good things could Bloomberg has done instead with the $400 million+ he's spent on his campaign?" Can you imagine the kind of dent that $400 million would've put into stopping voter suppression? -- @MsLaToshaBrown #MoneyPowerPolitics #NCRPlive
@MsLaToshaBrown That $400m could have funded a robust pro-democracy effort instead. @MsLaToshaBrown

"Can you imagine the kind of dent the $400m Bloomberg has spent on his campaign would have on combatting voter suppression?" @MsLaToshaBrown

#Philanthropy currently depends on the extraction of wealth." -- @Yahktoe #MoneyPowerPolitics #NCRPlive
Private philanthropy relies on the extracting and consolidation of wealth. There is no such thing as a neutral billionaire, no matter how generous they are with their philanthropy. @Yahktoe

Whenever there's a leadership question, we default to looking for a wealthy white man to save us. -- @MsLaToshaBrown #MoneyPowerPolitics #NCRPlive
As we move forward, we have to recognize the role of money in politics. -- @MsLaToshaBrown #MoneyPowerPolitics #NCRPlive
When the 12th wealthiest person in the world says they're going to single handedly fund their presidential campaign, we need to turn our focus to the need for campaign finance reform. @MsLaToshaBrown
#NCRPLive
We shouldn't be relying on one or two wealthy benefactors to provide public good. We should be asking our government to play that role. @MsLaToshaBrown
#ncrplive
.@MsLaToshaBrown says she's seen Bloomberg's benefactors supporting him, but they don't necessarily support the substance of his campaign. #MoneyPowerPolitics #NCRPlive
"A major concern for me is that Bloomberg is funding his campaign himself ... Who is he accountable to?" -- @MsLaToshaBrown #MoneyPowerPolitics #NCRPlive
If Bloomberg is self-funding his political engagement, then who is he accountable to? @MsLaToshaBrown
