12 marca 1884 urodził się Karol Pawlica jedyny zdaje się samuraj mówiący po naszemu – ur. w Nieborach (zm. 17 września 1970 w Nieborach na Śląsku Ciesz.); działacz narodowy, agronom, wojskowy, dyplomata. Uczestnik I wojny światowej. W 1915 roku trafił do niewoli rosyjskiej i został zesłany do azjatyckiej części carskiej Rosji. Po przejściu bezdroży Syberii 24 lipca 1920 roku dotarł z 41 osobową grupą polskich sierot do tokijskiej siedziby Japońskiego Czerwonego Krzyża. Za to uhonorowany został tytułem samuraja przez J. Okakurę. Pracował też w Konsulacie RP w Chicago i jako radca wojewody pomorskiego. W czasie 2WŚ ukrywał się w GG. Działacz PZKO w Czechosłowacji. Dożył 86 lat.
