#NGLFineChem is an interesting niche pharma company hiding behind a very specific business — veterinary APIs. The company manufactures the active pharmaceutical ingredients that go into medicines for cattle, buffaloes, sheep, poultry, pets and other animals. It also has a smaller human-API business, intermediates and finished dosage forms. FY26 revenue was ~₹501 Cr, with ~95% of Q4 revenue coming from animal APIs and more than 75% of sales coming from exports. What makes NGL interesting is its niche leadership. It has 43 veterinary APIs and has built strong positions in molecules such as Diminazene, Clorsulon and Buparvaquone. ICRA confirms strong market share in these products, while the company claims 15–50% share across some key molecules. Its portfolio has also expanded from roughly 20 APIs to ~45 in just three years. There is another important piece to the story: China + One. Global customers want an alternative to Chinese suppliers, and NGL is trying to become that second source. Its presence across multiple geographies and 430+ customers gives it a useful starting point. But this is not a traditional moat — customers can still dual-source and switch suppliers when the price difference becomes attractive. The bigger opportunity is regulated markets. NGL currently has 3 CEPs approved and 5 US DMFs registered, with another 3 CEPs and 4 DMFs under review. Management is targeting 6 CEPs and 9 DMFs by the end of CY26. If successful, moving existing molecules into Europe and eventually the US could improve both revenue quality and margins. The product pipeline is also worth watching. NGL is adding roughly 9–10 new molecules every year. Afoxolaner is being developed as a future opportunity, while Triclabendazole is already a regulated-market candidate. Atovaquone and Nitazoxanide provide a bridge into human APIs. Then comes the capacity story. The new Tarapur greenfield project has been scaled to ₹210 Cr and Phase II is expected to start commercial production in H2 FY27. At full utilisation, management sees potential revenue of ₹350–400 Cr from the new facility, although reaching peak utilisation could take 3–4 years. A further brownfield expansion is also planned. But here is the catch: NGL's biggest problem is pricing power. Its margins have historically swung sharply, and management itself has linked the FY27 margin outlook partly to Chinese competitors raising prices. That means the current recovery may be more cyclical than structural. So the real NGL story is not simply “veterinary API + growth = great stock.” The real question is whether NGL can successfully move from a price-sensitive, China-exposed API business into a higher-value regulated-market player. The next few years will tell us whether NGL is building a genuine moat — or simply riding another favourable cycle.
