This species is native to regions including India, Thailand, and the Indomalayan realm. It's a hermaphrodite flower which is trumpet-shaped with a short broad tube. The flowers usually open early in the morning and abort in the evening of the same day.

Known for its long, paddle-shaped lush green leaves, this plant has downward-facing flowers which can be a source of undiluted nectar, thereby attracting birds and insects. Also referred to as as the "Magic Flower of the Incas," it is one of the two national flowers of Bolivia - it displays the red, yellow & green colours of the Bolivian flag and is considered a national symbol.
