Thanks for writing such a clear informative piece. #noproact
New from me:
For independent contractors, Wednesday’s hearing will be the first real chance to get somebody directly associated with the Trump-Vance administration on the record with regard to policymaking about self-employment.

Not ok @SenSchumer #freelancers call your senators NOW!!!! @SenateDems want to end our livelihoods, prop up big labor and obviate the will of the people.

Long but VERY WORTHY read. Mike has been on the front lines of the #FightForFreelancers and #NoPROAct battle.
If you value your ability to own your own business, contract for your professional expertise, or even pick up a side gig when needed, you need to read up.
We have a nominee for Secretary of U.S. Department of Labor, who will directly affect every American. Hooray!
Let's measure that job.
— In 2025 DOL will spend $11 billion employing 17,000 employees.
— DOL's staff work in 31 named agencies, boards, bureaus, regional offices, programs, library and internal administration.
— Most DOL employees are already union members, primarily the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE).
— DOL profoundly affects the American work force of 169 million individuals, 10 million employers, and 76 million self-employers, especially including complex employer-employee overlap.
— Intense workplace issues the DOL deals with daily:
∆ wages, overtime, benefits & pensions
∆ unionization, voting, persuasion and recruitment
∆ pension security, solvency, and safety
∆ race & work
∆ religion & work
∆ veterans & work
∆ disability & work
∆ men & women & hiring & work
∆ safety, work, & working conditions
∆ mining, miners and mine safety
∆ labor & union & management conflicts
∆ federal contracts and unions
∆ statistics on labor and work
— The most charitable description of DOL's employees' mindset might include: warmly affectionate toward unions and unionization; personally risk averse; and uncomprehending of the 76 million Americans who pursue self-employment.
Who is the lucky nominee?
In November the Teamsters Union president proposed Lori Chavez-DeRemer, a soon-to-be-former one-term Congresswoman and former mayor of Happy Valley, Oregon, a pleasant town of 27,000 southeast of Portland, Oregon.
Ms. Chavez-DeRemer has an undergrad degree in business administration.
She appears to have played a marketing role in her doctor-husband's firm, which serves 45,000+ patients annually by contracting for specialty anesthesia services at hospitals and clinics in Oregon's Willamette Valley and surrounding communities.
Ms. Chavez-DeRemer has no experience in the issues outlined above that the DOL contends with. She's utterly unprepared to deal with the scale of the DOL.
Finally, she has repeatedly expressed support for the strongly pro-union PROact imposing unionization on the entire national work force and dissolving the franchise business model.
The PROact plunges into collectivizing American work at the moment the American voter stepped firmly in the opposite direction.
Ms. Chavez-DeRemer looks utterly unprepared for the challenge she will face in two months.
As a practical matter, she will likely end up a hostage of the monolithic agency she has been picked to lead, dependent on her union sponsor for guidance.
Her likely ascension to Secretary represents a total union takeover of the US Department of Labor.

From our @asthegirlturns. We've been against #freelancebusting since day one. #NoPROAct
OPINION: Labor Secretary Nominee Chavez-DeRemer Is a Trojan Horse to Complete the Union Takeover of DOL https://t.co/TSu2UD7TSS
We need @GOPHELP to fight for a national right to work law and for a permanent right to freelance it #asap so it would supersede any destructive CA #ab5 laws & regulations . #noproact -Since majority of American workers are not union members. We need to protect the right of freelancers to always freelance! @thekimkavin @RepKiley @SenCassidy @FredTopel @Freelancers_USA @walterkirn @USChamberAction @SPJFreelance @WSJ @vpvance50 @Freakonomics @grannybot2 @LASDBrink
Very hard pass. She can find some orher admin job. #NoPROAct
Independent Contractors Sound the Alarm: PRO-Act Sponsor Lori-Chavez-DeRemer Is Not Fit to Be Labor Secretary https://t.co/WC2jcWakZF
@davincidiva @realDonaldTrump @JDVance Exactly, @thekimkavin!
We need a Labor Sec'y who understands the 72 million freelancers by choice, not unions trying to control us.
#FightForFreelancers #NoPROAct
Oh, hell no. #NoProAct
Scoop w/ @hollyotterbein - Rep Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-Ore) is in the mix for Trump's labor secretary and she has the backing of Teamsters President Sean O'Brien

Hey @realDonaldTrump @JDVance please remember America’s 72 Million #freelancers by CHOICE when choosing Labor sec’y.
Unions should not be allowed to hold a monopoly on all labor.
Independent labor matters too.
And we demand to *remain* independent!
#FightForFreelancers
#NoPROAct as currently written
This would not be good for independent contractors. She supports the #PROAct
@LorenaSGonzalez too
Fancy for Walmart with her big labor job #noproact #repealab5 @thekimkavin @jenvanlaar @KevinKileyCA @grannybot2 @walterkirn
@mcuban She didn't get my feedback or anyone I know who is an independent professional. Her proposals are pure smoke and she needs to take a look in the mirror. #FreelanceBusting #NoPROAct
Millions and millions of dollars have been spent fighting over these laws- what a waste money that could’ve gone to provide vouchers to needy families. @ErikSherman @Freelancers_USA @TheFP @reason #noproact
Phil in Simi Valley highlights in 28 seconds the freedoms of independent contracting:
—working in retirement
—caring for others
—freedom to schedule work minute-by-minute
—independence
—self-reliance
—choice of work.
We have unsung saints among us.
Thank you, Phil!
The PRO Act is a “pretty good piece of legislation,” Josh Hawley told me. He becomes the first Republican senator to at least tacitly endorse unions marquee bill. Hawley was name-checked by Teamsters’ Sean O’Brien in his RNC speech as a pro-labor R. https://t.co/5fINF4G6IL
#NoProAct #mylabormychoice greedy unions leaders. Yes April stepped right into MKH shoes. we will never be forced into a union we are not gig workers.
Kamala Harris will be a president for American workers! She has shown time and time again her commitment to bolstering the middle class. This is the type of leadership America needs.
Meet Kelly.
She’s a mom & entrepreneur.
Under Trump, her business was thriving. Under Biden & democrats, she’s had to close stores.
@KKo2470 is on a mission to register new voters & elect Trump in Pennsylvania.
Can we thank her?
👏

I will not vote for a woman - @VP @KamalaHarris - who claims to empower women but supports erasing over 60 million freelancer livelihoods - women make up ~50% of freelance workforce - under the PRO Act. #NoPROAct
#IndependentContractors and #freelancers don't *want* or *need* a union. We are *independent.* Not exploited; #selfemployed; equal to our clients. #NoPROAct
Regardless of the @CaSupremeCourt #Prop22 ruling today, we're just getting started!!! We won’t stop mobilizing and organizing until gig workers have their dignity and their UNION, no matter how many 100s of millions greedy gig corps spend. #UnionsForAll
