The start-up was given a huge boost in December 2022, when Paslier, and González, from Madrid, were awarded the Earthshot Prize, the environmental award set up by the Prince of Wales. It not only gave them a £1 million prize to develop their business, but also put William in their corner. The prince has since visited their research labs in Hackney Wick, east London, several times.
Paslier added: “In 2022 we had made a few hundred thousand packaging units. We were doing trials with Just Eat but we were not really on the market, not at scale. The Earthshot Prize gave us the stamp of approval that a lot of industrial partners were waiting to see. Since then we have put 30 million seaweed packaging units on the market.” ⬇️
