A major leap forward for Scotland’s nature recovery 🎉 Last week, MSPs voted to pass the #NaturalEnvironmentBill into law. That means Scotland will now have legally binding targets to protect and restore nature 🙌
Thank you to everyone who has supported this milestone by writing to MSPs, signing petitions, campaigning, and showing up for Scotland’s #wildlife.
Real, lasting change is needed, and while work continues on the ground, as our CEO Steve Micklewright says: “it’s time to move from protecting fragments of nature to #restoring entire landscapes.”

Nature has an incredible capacity to recover - if we give it the chance. 🌱 The #NaturalEnvironmentBill is a vital opportunity to set legally binding targets to restore nature.
We know nature is struggling - one in nine species in Scotland is at risk of extinction - but we can change this.
Ask your MSPs to make Scotland's new nature targets as strong and effective as possible so that we can protect and restore our land and seas. Take action now 👉 https://t.co/mgKyLzRAx2

A working ecosystem is like a finely tuned machine – but when its parts are missing or damaged, the whole thing splutters to a halt.
Tomorrow, politicians will debate changes to the #NaturalEnvironmentBill, which sets targets for nature recovery but leaves out the vital natural processes that keep all life going – including us.
Scotland’s biodiversity is declining because these natural processes – pollination and seed dispersal, free-flowing water, grazing and predation, nutrient cycling – have been disrupted or lost.
Amendment 42, from Mercedes Villalba MSP, would fix this by adding legally binding targets for natural processes to Bill.
Can you take a few minutes – before tomorrow morning – to email your MSP and ask them to support Amendment 42?

This week Open Seas’ Public Affairs Manager Rea Cris gave evidence to MSPs as part of the @SP_RuralAffairs consideration of the #NaturalEnvironmentBill
After 10 years of governmental failure to effectively protect our seas from environmental decline, we support targets for nature restoration in our seas to hold the Scottish Government to account. Read more here: https://t.co/enAY59vAGk

We need the #NaturalEnvironmentBill to set strong, meaningful targets to help nature recover.
Will you tell our leaders how much this matters, and why you love Scotland’s nature? 👉 https://t.co/cXDfmeZcH8

Wondering what to make of today's #NaturalEnvironmentBill from the Scottish Government? Here's our take as a member of the Scottish Rewilding Alliance🏴
✅ The Scottish Government’s new Natural Environment Bill is a welcome effort to set Scotland on the course to nature recovery through statutory targets.
❓ But since first proposed, it has lost an overarching purpose for National Parks to restore nature, as well as new legislation around deer management. It provides a framework for nature restoration targets - but so far, without the detail we need to know if it will lead to the recovery of Scotland’s land and seas.
⏱️ 2030 - a critical year for the government’s nature ambitions - is now just five years away. We need clear, ambitious and updatable targets. We need legislation that prioritises ecological restoration.

Good to meet yesterday with @gillianmsp to highlight the vital role a #NaturalEnvironmentBill can play in tackling the twin crises of #biodiversityloss and #climatechange. Also discussed importance of ensuring local authorities are equipped to deliver #NatureNetworks.

To help Scotland’s species-rich grasslands flourish, we need decisive commitments from @scotgov

Amazing to see @cairngormsnews bring #beavers back to the park. These ecosystem engineers can boost biodiversity and slow down water. National parks can be trailblazers for nature recovery. We want next year's #NaturalEnvironmentBill to empower them to be even bolder for nature.
On Monday Minister @lornaslater joined us at @Rothiemurchus to help with the first of two beaver releases in the National Park.
This was a momentous day, and we’ll keep working with land managers to ensure the beavers have a positive impact on their surroundings.
