I'm exactly one page into Emily Danforth's Plain Bad Heroines - which I've been curious about since Shannon Scott's #VPFAInclusion paper on it - & am deeply convinced our #3rdSex #VPFAReadingGroup might love it & its #neoVic intertextual engagement with Mary MacLane's 1902 novel!
I loved how #VPFAReadingGroup discussed the idea of 'passing' & how that hinges on an audience's knowledge, not just when it comes to gender & cross-dressing, but also #neoVic, genre, & 'authenticity'. Like #steampunk, is #TippingtheVelvet somehow 'more true bc it's not'?
