@historyfilmfan TOS, TNG & DS9 resonated with all age groups and they’re still popular today (with all ages). So IMO if #NeTrek had focused more on sharp, high quality storytelling and less on trying to appeal to modern audiences, they’d have the younger audience they say they vitally need. 🧐

@PR0GRAMMERHUM0R Optimizing trigonometry calculations in #Netrek by looking up static values in an array, originally implemented in 1988. Another optimization is that the “index/angle” is 1/256th of a circle, allowing the “Netrek direction” to be transmitted in 1 octet over the network.

@DonnyWals I took the old Java Netrek client (written in Java 1.2 back in 1998) and have it compiling in eclipse and _almost_ playable (just center and right mouse click issues at this point). Hope to finish this week. #Netrek forever!

This game is really fun i streamed it a bit last night, I first played it when I was 12 in 1997!!! On a 14.4 kbps modem lol Glad to see games are still going on and updated clients have been created ... If anyone is interested in this game hit me up I'll get u going #Netrek

Netrek is the _original_ Internet game. First written in C in 1989, it lets 16 players fight for control of the galaxy. I implemented a new Netrek Server in #Swift This server supports #IPv6. So after 31 years, it is possible to play #Netrek over IPv6. https://t.co/vpeoGJf1R2
