I already had some words for some snark on Humanist about this one, but let me tell you a few things about working at a regional comprehensive university. #networkingrcs
One for the annals of bad DH jobs:
"We seek an individual who will teach four courses a term, conduct research, and help to develop UPJ' s new interdisciplinary Multimedia and Digital Culture program…”
and fix the dept printer, and get a book out on the tenure clock, and...
@paigecmorgan Many of us have to deal with shrinking budgets annually, and it's pressuring us to do new kinds of research too--it may be pressuring the work we do in DH at traditionally un-funded institutions like regional comprehensives. See our twitter feed from #networkingrcs.

And, of course, all my gratitude to the #squad of @ChuckRybak @JannekenSmucker @WhatTheDickens @kirkmanne @smeetie @epyllia @Rhetorisa @Smallbrarian & Pam Mitchem for an inspiring few days of great conversation & plans for action! #NetworkingRCs
Huge shout out as well to @salemstate Library and Director @ElizMcKeigue for supporting #NetworkingRCs, Ron Rodriguez & his fantastic students in Instructional Media Services for filming, & @SSUCASDean & @SSUProvost whose support has been invaluable!
Much gratitude to @roopikarisam and #networkingrcs! We go onward fearlessly in solidarity with our regional comprehensive DH networks on the make. Let's see how this grows... :-)
We got a plan for the Regional Comprehensive Digital Humanities Network, a statement of the value of the work we and our RC colleagues do, an outreach plan, and next steps both small and large! Thank you, @NEHgov, @NEH_ODH & @US_IMLS for making #NetworkingRCs possible!
As we attempt to sort out the organization of the network, we might be getting a little tired..... #NetworkingRCs
Another great point from the team on the statement of regional comprehensive digital humanities' value: "We can't afford to hire 'experts' or 'big names' in DH, so we invent DH practice ourselves in our intramural and extramural collaboration." #NetworkingRCs
.@chuckrybak points to a crucial affordance of our work: we teach the most vulnerable students of all types of 4-year institutions, we are closest to teaching and pedagogy in our work. #NetworkingRCs
.@epyllia points to a key idea: we are people who do a lot for tiny amounts of money. Give us a little money and we can grow exponentially. #NetworkingRCs
.@JannekenSmucker @chuckrybak @epyllia have drafted a conceptual statement of the affordances of digital humanities at regional comprehensives, calling us "rogue laboratories" of digital humanities. #NetworkingRCs
I have it on good authority that my university thinks they hired me to be a World Literature and English Education professor....#NetworkingRCs https://t.co/yq2Dhwx1zK
#NetworkingRCs @ChuckRybak Yes, we're losing positions in humanities, but when there's a retirement, maybe it's NOT the best thing to replace that position but to reinvent it. He himself isn't doing the work he was first hired to do...
.@chuckrybak's latest book on higher education https://t.co/HjH70DHg90 #NetworkingRCs
#NetworkingRCs @ChuckRybak speaks to the problem of "unicorns": Don't let one person represent DH or it won't last at your institution.
#networkingrcs @ChuckRybak says it makes sense to administration to hear about "projects" that students work on, rather than "digital humanities" work in general.
"Digital humanities thrives through visibility and recognition. When people think of DH at your institution, you and your squad should be what people think of right away." -@ChuckRybak, citing Taylor Swift's possession of a squad. #NetworkingRCs
"Teaching is the place I decided to be utterly fearless." -@ChuckRybak #NetworkingRCs
"Now that I'm an important administrator, here's what I'd say...." -@ChuckRybak #NetworkingRCs
Everyone collectively bemoans the death of Storify. Good replacement: Wakelet https://t.co/uvSbIY4U4E cc @ChuckRybak #NetworkingRCs
