The intoxicating atmosphere and increasingly intriguing plot of THE RIVERBANK is enough to make you lightheaded. Engrossing look at the insidious nature of evangelism and the importance of queer community in Brazil, but the elements of mysticism feel underdeveloped. #NewFest38
Leah Nelson’s TANGLES had me gripped from its endearing opening to its tear-stained ending. This deeply felt, expressively animated exploration of Alzheimer’s and its effects on a family has a humorous streak wide enough to make it as entertaining as it is devastating. #NewFest38
ON THE ROAD is sexy as fuck, but David Pablos’s evocatively shot look at long-haul truckers in northern Mexico has plenty else to recommend it, starting with the striking pair of performances at its center. Equally sensitive and stoic, they burn through the screen. #NewFest38
Brock Yurich has written himself quite the role in TEST as an amateur bodybuilder struggling with his sexuality, money, a codependent mother, and a tough new coach. All the cast gets to shine, though, in this potent piece of cinema. Equally introspective and visceral. #NewFest38
A tremendous, lived-in AIDS drama, somehow still without distribution. Closing #NewFest38 this week if you're in NY.
Ira Sachs’ ‘The Man I Love’ Reforges Rami Malek Into the World’s Most Captivating Actor. #Cannes2026 https://t.co/AX6Qr5Dfc6
Alex Thompson and Kelly O’Sullivan’s empathy knows no bounds. The way MOUSE explores grief is uniquely complex and beautiful, with gorgeous performances from Katherine Mallen Kupferer and Sophie Okonedo. Full of warmth and generosity, to both characters and audience. #NewFest38
First #NewFest38 screening last night was the delightful BEFORE I DO. Queer hangout movies are so important, as are Meryl Streep karaoke nights, and this is a highly enjoyable, low-key adult dramedy with a flawless ensemble. So warm and lived-in, funny and sweet. Gimme more!
Tomorrow is the Extended Deadline to submit your latest project to #NewFest38 🔔 https://t.co/N6vU3rxHuw
