In the meantime, I had to take an entire vacation day from dayjob to do so, so I might as well use it wisely! I've already made a pot of tea, so it's time to sit down and start the final pre-querying polish of #NineTenthsWIP.
One year ago today, finishing the first draft of this novel ▶️ Right now, going through the book line by line, trying to get the finished novel down to 130k. 😭

I have a buffer vacation day - got back from the cottage last night, so today I am... sleeping in, recording an audition, catching up on social media, laundry, groceries, and editing a chapter of #NineTenthsWIP cause I thought of a better way to do "That Speech".
@kellypreeper @TLM_writes "The Speech" at the climax of #NineTenthsWIP. I thought up a better, more emotionally impactful way to say the same thing.
@ceciliaclyra ' There's this thing in all stories called the "inciting incident." '

Making notes for a video call with my fave betareader tonight. I am at that stage of editing where I am second guessing every creative choice and wondering if I've bogged the book down with too much fiddly stuff that goes nowhere.

The #RedPenDraft inputs have begun. I have two goals for this pass on #NineTenthsWIP.
1) Put the changes on the pages into the digital version.
2) Cut a MINIMUM of 200 words from every chapter as I go. The cuts are probably going to come from the red pen changes, but not always.
Made the mistake of walking around the neighborhood where part of #NineTenthsWIP takes place with a Canadian historian buddy. We chatted about what the neighborhood would have been like 216 years ago when my protagonist first arrived.
Dammit. Now I'm contemplating a prequel.
The #RedPenDraft of #NineTenthsWIP is complete. Slightly over 600 double sided pages, 58 chapters, and now I have to input all of the changes into the digital version. Thus draft three is born.

So @adriannap just introduced me to #MarcSebastian on TikTok and.........
He looks and sounds EXACTLY like my narrator protagonist in #NineTenthsWIP.
I promise tonight was the first the I ever saw this man.
Um, hello "Colin”?

I am ooooooooone chapter away from completing this Act II rewrite on #NineTenthsWIP.
Can I finish it over my dayjob lunch break???
This is the kind that of writing day where I wish my manuscript would just magically rearrange itself based on what I'm thinking so I don't have to do the actual work myself. Bah!
My brain feels wrung out.

#NineTenthsWIP is now officially under 20k works! Woohoo.
I cut chapters 34 to 42 from #NineTenthsWip.I now need to go in and write just one or two chapters that hits all the same emotional beats without the repetition and redundancy that these chapters suffered from. I've pulled out 34,000 words so at least now the book is manageable
Writerly things that need doing:
🖊 Newsletter
🖊 Write five freelance blog posts
🖊 Rewrite the second half of Act II of #NineTenthsWIP
🖊Finish 5-page synopsis for #NineTenths
🖊 Finish Marketing Doc for NineTenths
🖊Continue redpenning
Things I have the brainpower for:
Welp. I just pulled 25k words out of this book. 5k will probably go back in but I gotta figure out which ones it will be.

Get yourself a #betareader who reads until 4am and highlights just big old chunks of redundant stuff that can be cut and shows you, gently and eloquently, how you can reduce 5 chapters into 1. I have work to do. But good work.

And yes, I give myself permission to be stressed out and overworked during a pandemic. I don't feel burned out, I just feel... numb, and empty, and incapable.
If I don't do my #NineTenthsWIP editing during my morning commute or morning break, it doesn't get done at all.
