The difference 1 day can make. The sudden flooding is due to an ice jam downstream preventing the #NithRiver from flowing normally. Waterways all over are unpredictable & changes can happen suddenly. PLEASE #StaySafe! Stay clear of waterways & slow down on icy roads.
The #NithRiver is rising. With the spike in temperature today the ditches are full, the drains are running full, and there will be ponding in low lying areas. Some ditches are full of ice and flows may divert unpredictably.

Please stay off #NithRiver ice!! It is never wise to trust the ice on the Nith, but especially now as temps have fluctuated. Rain has melted some areas which are covered over again with a thin sheet of new ice and a little fresh snow.

Heads up @WilmotTownship residents! Keep an eye on the weather this week. If we get the forecasted rain and mild temps, ice on the #NithRiver will be impacted and we may be in for some flooding of low lying areas.
This very important! The #NithRiver may look well frozen over, but the smooth surface hides differences in thickness below. There are turbulences, springs in the banks, and animal activity that make it impossible to be sure of a good thick ice coverage.
⚠️Please stay OFF unmonitored water bodies, such as rivers, lakes & reservoirs. While colder temperatures allow for some ice to form, daily changes in temperature, wind, precipitation and underwater currents greatly affect local ice conditions. Stay safe!
