Just finished my most comprehensive video exploring Social Transition in the classroom for transgender genders (names and pronoun changes without parental knowledge or consent).
It’s been a hot topic recently in response to @ABDanielleSmith transgender care legislation. My friends at @HDSB are reviewing their gender identity procedure this week and since I couldn’t be with them I thought I’d deliver them my thoughts remotely.
“What schools are missing is that they DO have a legal obligation to allow individuals to identify and express however they wish. They DO have a legal obligation to report even the possibility of abusive situations to ensure children are protected. They do NOT have a legal obligation to shield knowledge of a child’s identity from parents, and any credible reason why one might be tempted to do so—in the service of protecting a child—literally overlaps with their obligation to mandatorily report a dangerous situation.”
