Press Release ๐ Black Johnson, Western Peninsular, Freetown, Sierra Leone 23rd June 2025
#SaveBlackJohnsonBeach #NoFishFarm #TheWorldisWatching #SaloneX #SierraLeone #SaloneTwitter
The government forces acting under instruction and oversight of Mr. Alieu Rabieu, a worker at the Ministry of Surveys and Lands, 3rd Floor, Youyi Building, continued the destruction of Black Johnson and Big Water.
They demolished the two well-established eco resorts down on the beaches of Whale Bay: Yankai and Tito's Paradise Eco Lodge.
Yankai was declared a jewel of eco-tourism in Sierra Leone by the Minister of Tourism during this last year. There are reports she took a group of people down there Saturday 21st June and met the demolition going on, much to her confusion.
Tito's Paradise has been successfully offering eco-tourism to national and international tourists for more than 10 years.
The owners and workers of both resorts are in shock.
This action is completely unlawful. Following the Judgement in the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone of 6th February 2025 (attached, most pertinent paragraphs 4, 5, and 17 to 23):
This was against:
Dr Turay Sesay, The Minister of Lands, Housing and Country Planning
The Director of Surveys
Abdul-Rhaman-Sesay
The Minister of Lands, Housing and Country Planning
The Attorney General, 3rd Floor, Guma Building
Mr Adonis Bull
Sento Kamara
The case was to decide the following legal points applicable to all lands in the Western Peninsula Area:
The matter of Section 21 of the 1991 Constitution of the Republic of Sierra Leone
The matter of Section 28 of the 1991 Constitution of the Republic of Sierra Leone
The matter of Section 124(1) of the 1991 Constitution of the Republic of Sierra Leone
The matter of Section 127 of the 1991 Constitution of the Republic of Sierra Leone
Plus two matters relating to the Rules of the Supreme and High Courts of Sierra Leone
The declarations about these questions, made at Paragraph 23 of the Judgement as follows:
The Plaintiffs rights had been violated under section 21 of the Constitution of Sierra Leone. The Defendants had โforcibly and without lawful authority laid hold of an unlawfully seized and laid claim to all of that piece or parcel of land.----โ
โThe acts and actions of the defendants are tantamount to a violent and unlawful deprivation of property rights of the Plaintiffs.-----โ
This is exactly what has happened at Black Johnson and Big Water from 19th June 2025.
Please note this is a Supreme Court Decision to decide the extent of protection afforded by section 21 of the Constitution of Sierra Leone 1991, to land owners in the Western Peninsula area of Sierra Leone.
We have video footage of the unlawful destruction of Yankai.
These totally unlawful actions of destruction need publicising.
There are stories emerging that the orders came directly from the State House. This is yet to be confirmed.
