If TSG where there then something was going on & the last thing they need is someone taking a picture of them.

I wrote to the Police Ombudsman to lodge a formal complaint about an incident involving the actions of multiple police officers in Derry’s Castle Street on Sunday, July 2nd, 2023.
Whilst driving along Shipquay Street on this day, I observed a significant police presence in Castle Street, approximately 20 police officers outside a licenced premises, which struck me as an unusual sight and prompted me to park up and approach the incident to observe and see what was taking place.
I was watching the situation for quite some time, but as I attempted to take a picture of the scene, I was aggressively approached by officers in the tactical support group which is a police unit that is trained in more specialist tactics than normal police officers.
Without warning or any slight justification, two officers grabbed me from both sides and one from the front and began to manhandle me. I was forcibly pushed against a wall and then down the street and the police officers left the scene soon after - I stood my ground.
There were no cordons in place, I was not standing in the way whatsoever and no words were used to warn me of any problems they had with me before they assaulted me – in my opinion, they saw a camera and reacted.
My press freedom was squashed by police on this day.
When I made my formal complaint on the 13th of February 2024, I provided the Ombudsman with my written statement alongside public CCTV and police body-camera footage which I acquired through GDPR requests.
On the same day, I got a response telling me that my complaint had been received by the Police Ombudsman’s office.

Come March 2024, I was thinking it was strange that my complaint had not yet been assigned to an investigating officer from the Ombudsman's office.
On the 25th, I wrote to the Ombudsman to find out when they would allocate my complaint to an investigating officer.
On the same day, the Ombudsman confirmed to me that my complaint had been allocated to one of their investigating officers who would be in touch with me in due course.

Come May 2024, I still had not heard anything from the investigating officer that they had allocated to my complaint.
On the 21st, I wrote to the Ombudsman again to ask if someone would be in contact with me and that it had been an awfully long time.
𝟮𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰
On the 23rd of May 2024, I rang the Police Ombudsman's office as I was tired of being left in the dark for so long, only to be shockingly told that they had no record of me ever submitting a complaint in their system.
They told me that I would have to resubmit my complaint and on the same day, that’s what I did. Days went past and they didn’t even acknowledge that they had received my complaint.
𝟳𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰
On the 7th of June 2024, I wrote to the Ombudsman requesting acknowledgement that my complaint had been successfully received as the first one I made months prior had been overlooked.
Days after I wrote this to the Ombudsman, I was sent a letter to my address (which was dated 3rd June 2024) that an investigating officer had been appointed and that I should get in contact with him on the phone number provided.
It said in that letter that if I failed to contact the office by the 24th of June 2024, no further action would be taken and the complaint would be closed.
𝟭𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰
On Monday 10th of June, I attempted to get in touch with the investigating officer via this phone number and I received no answer. I left a voicemail.
𝟭𝟭𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰
The next day on Tuesday 11th of June, I attempted to get in touch with the investigating officer again via this phone number and I received no answer. I left a voicemail.
After this, on the same day, I phoned the Ombudsman office directly and asked to speak to the investigating officer and the person who took my call could not get through to this person and said that they would pass a message on.
𝟭𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰
On Friday 14th June, I wrote to the Ombudsman and told them I had been trying to get in touch with my investigating officer about this complaint but that I wasn’t having any success and requested that he phone me on Monday.
𝟭𝟳𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰
Then today on Monday 17th June, I got a call from the Ombudsman - it was an investigating officer but it turned out to be the wrong I/O, completely separate from this case and he had no idea what I was talking about.
I rang the Ombudsman office again after this to try to get in touch with the correct investigating officer but did not have any luck in getting through to this person.

I am not trying to blame anybody for this, but what's happening here, seriously?
If the public body that deals with the conduct of police officers in Northern Ireland isn’t working, there’s a real concern here that needs to be looked at.
