Are we are the dangerous thing? If we found a less advanced intelligent species tomorrow, we would not leave them alone. We would get involved and would want to know what they are, how they live, what their planet has, what their biology can teach us and what their technology might be worth, and in and on. At some point money, power, religion, would all get dragged into it because that is what we do. Somebody would decide they knew what was best for them. Somebody would take something or would cross a line. They would have no way to stop us. That is why I keep thinking that if older civilizations exist, maybe they already know exactly what kind of species should not be allowed anywhere near a developing world. The reason contact is controlled has nothing to do with protecting us. But maybe its about protecting them from us. I would not trust humanity with another inhabited planet right now. We cannot even handle each other. Why the hell would anyone trust us with a civilization that cant defend itself?
