#Scoliosis patients around the world are asking the @srs_org to make a change. We want them to change their language and stop using "deformity." #NotDeformed
Medical language is always evolving. The "Hospital for Special Surgery" used to be "Hospital for the Ruptured & Crippled." The "American Association of Mental Retardation" changed to "American Association on Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities" in 2007. #NotDeformed
The @SRS_org describes scoliosis as a deformity across their social media platforms. This outdated term is harmful and can further the negative effects of scoliosis on body image and self-esteem. Scoliosis is not a deformity, it’s a condition.
It’s time to change your language
Scoliosis patients deserve empathetic medical providers. I hope this campaign encourages conversation over appropriate language that adapts to the times, words that avoid suggesting someone isn’t normal. @SRS_org @CurvyGirlsScoli #NotDeformed
I support this campaign calling to change @SRS_org use of the word “deformity” Scoliosis can be recognized in a neutral way that is sensitive to patients who are often times very young women. Medical language can evolve. "Structural spine variations" is a suggestion. #NotDeformed

Saw a lady who felt so insecure about this, she had to do a very delicate surgery to fix it.
Well, this is mine and I donot agree that this makes me deformed and if it does, medically, well my mind is full of wholeness and confidence, so doesn't change a thing #notdeformed
