In a desperate attempt to create the illusion of “victory,” Hamas’s criminals thought it’d be a glorious idea to parade four young Israeli female hostages on stage before releasing them. The young women were forced to make statements about how well they were treated, how good the terrorists were to them, and how incredibly grateful they were for the protection of Hamas. The group thought it could cover up the shame associated with holding women hostages for 15 months, in total violation of cultural, religious, and humanistic norms. By dressing them up in uniforms resembling the IDF’s colors, Hamas thought it would erase the cowardice of how these women were captured in their pajamas and were paraded around by savage thugs who bragged about them being “sabaya” or sex slaves. Hamas thought it could somehow make Gazans forget the disaster it had brought upon them by carrying out a military parade to release young women who have had to endure vulnerability, damp tunnels, and an uncertain future. Hamas hoped that by constructing a stage, using aid fuel for a terror parade instead of fueling hospital generators, ambulances, and fire and rescue trucks, it could excite the hordes of “pro-Palestine” Twitter/demonstration Mujahideen in Jordan, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, the US, Turkey, France, and all over the world, who have normalized violent Islamist extremism as a legitimate form of “resistance.” Instead, what Hamas did was display four young women who were not afraid and did not cower before hundreds of armed terrorists who had hoped these women would appear weak, pathetic, and feeble. Instead, Hamas gave these women a chance to make up for the horror they experienced during their initial captivity, in which they were bloodied, confused, dazed, and terrified. In a bizarre twist of fate, Hamas inadvertently allowed these women to courageously close this horrendous chapter of their lives, standing tall, confident, and unfazed by the hostile atmosphere that Hamas had hoped would instill fear and terror in these young women to show the power of the “resistance.” Additionally, and crucially, a large number of Gazans, unlike the Hamasniks abroad, are not buying the propaganda. They’re not looking at the aforementioned spectacle and thinking it was worth it or that Hamas achieved anything other than perpetual death and destruction. Yes, some are radicalized and full of hatred, not to mention those who are furious over what Israel has done to their lives for 15 months. But they still hold Hamas equally responsible for the reckless endangerment of their lives and futures, only to be “rewarded” with empty parades and hollow displays of victory. Shame on anyone who witnessed the exchange yesterday and thought wow, this was worth annihilating Gaza over.
