Seeing Ahmad Massoud the leader of #NRF at Khamenei’s funeral was disappointing and a miscalculation for the young man who aspires to represent Afghanistan.
He grew up abroad and had the opportunity to go to some of the world’s best schools and receive an education and gain experience because of the sacrifices and resources of the Afghan people and it is difficult to understand why that did not lead to a different outlook.
Why, as a young man of the 21st century, did he choose to stand beside one of the darkest chapters of modern history?
Why did he attend the funeral of a man in whose regime, for generations, labeled Afghan immigrants as lesser humans and called them as “garbage” and “filth,” and whose policies led to Afghan children being pulled out of classrooms simply because they were migrants?
Ahmad is not a government. He could just stayed out of it. He could say no.
Why, as an Afghan politician and someone who claims to represent a young generation, did he honor a regime that has executed educated, talented young Iranians in public squares at dawn?
As someone whose future lies in this region, how could he overlook the blood of Mahsa Amini and the thousands of Iranian women who have been beaten, imprisoned, tortured, and abused under this regime?
What disappoints me most is that I thought he had the potential to become a leader who could have been more honorable, more courageous, and more capable of uniting his people as a strong political opposition figure. Instead, he appears politically directionless, indifferent to the suffering of his own people, and willing to attend any funeral, condolence gathering, or ceremonial event without regard for its meaning or consequences.
How could he ignore the suffering of Afghan young men in search of work being shot and thrown into pits by the Iranian regimes security forces?
The regime led by #Khamenai forced many afghan immigrants, driven by poverty and desperation into joining the Fatemiyoun and Zainebiyoun brigades, fighting and dying simply to earn the right to remain in Iran or allow their children to attend school.
The blood of those innocent Afghan migrants, used as expendable soldiers in Iran’s proxy wars in Syria and other conflicts in exchange for the most basic human rights, remains on Khamenei’s hands.
Ahmad will be judged by the freedom loving men and women of Iran and Afghans who are much better than this!
Let us not forget that countless Afghan men and women stood in solidarity with the people of Iran when the regime was massacring its own citizens in the streets.
They stood with Mahsa Amini and with the Woman, Life, Freedom movement. They raised their voices for the Iranian people, condemned the regime’s brutality, and demanded justice and that solidarity deserved to be remembered, not betrayed.
