Grok for the WIN
The Oregon Democrats’ post is spin, not a fact check. It inverts Drazan’s stated positions.
Locker rooms. Drazan does not argue that government should generally manage children’s locker rooms. She argues for sex-separated spaces and sports based on biological sex. She sponsored legislation to require K-12 athletic competitions to be designated by biological sex, and she has publicly described a female student who had to share a locker room with biological males and said she does not want girls forced into spaces where they are afraid. That is a rule about who may enter a sex-designated facility, the same kind of rule schools have long used. Framing it as “the government belongs in your child’s locker room” treats the status-quo separation policy as novel intrusion and treats the opposite policy (access by gender identity) as the absence of government.
Books. Drazan opposed Senate Bill 1098, which limited schools’ ability to remove library materials on grounds that include sexual orientation and gender identity. She said material that cannot be read on the House floor should not be the standard for school shelves, and that “discernment is not discrimination.” A Republican colleague on the same fight said it is the job of local school boards and parents, not the state, to decide what is appropriate. Her earlier Parents’ Bill of Rights also called for parent access to curriculum and less bureaucratic control over classrooms. Opposing a state law that restricts removal of sexually explicit material is the opposite of wanting the state to micromanage every book.
Your premises. Same-sex locker rooms match what Drazan has argued for. On books, her side has said parents and local boards should decide, and that the state should not bar those decisions — not that the state has zero role in public schools at all. On Kotek, Oregon already makes the governor the superintendent of public instruction and lets the governor appoint the State Board of Education; that structure predates her. Kotek has used it in contested ways, including an executive order on instructional time and declining to reappoint a board member who criticized that order. Drazan has also said that, as governor and superintendent, she would fire the state board. Both would wield an existing office; the dispute is over how centralized that office should be in practice, not over Kotek inventing the title.

A Lonza groundbreaking is a real event. Using it as proof that Oregon’s business climate is fixed, or that Kotek reversed the slide, is the political move.
What the photo-op is
Kotek showed up in Bend, announced $1.6 million from the Governor’s Strategic Reserve Fund, and tied the project to HB 4084 / her Prosperity Roadmap. Lonza is adding about 80 permanent jobs (plus temporary construction), with the plant not due until 2029. That is a retention win for an existing Bend site—not a new company choosing Oregon from a blank map.
What the meme leaves out
Since she took office in January 2023, the public record is not “businesses flooding in.” It is:

She is selling a small, subsidized expansion as the story of Oregon’s economy while the larger pattern is leakage and shutdowns. Meeting Lonza at BIO and then standing at a shovel site is standard credit-claiming. It does not answer why recruiters from Texas, Arizona, and the Carolinas keep winning Oregon firms’ next building.
Fair limit
Not every closure is “because Kotek.” Mills cite wood supply and markets; Daimler called it a network decision; Dutch Bros cited airports and growth markets. The rebuttal is not “she personally killed every shop.” It is: do not let an 80-job, $1.6 million announcement erase a multi-year record of exits, mill deaths, and net establishment loss.
