Why CAPFs Exist & Why the OGAS Debate Matters !!
Think of international organizations like the UN: created to uphold universal principles, peace, cooperation, human rights.
History shows that when such bodies serve the interests of a few powerful groups, they lose credibility and fail their founding purpose.
The same principle applies to India's Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).
Forces like the BSF and ITBP were raised after the 1962 and 1965 wars, not for administrative convenience, but to strengthen national security and border resilience. Their design, structure, and mandate exist to serve the nation, not individual ambitions.
The OGAS CAPF debate: if Supreme Court verdicts are reversed or legislation introduced just to satisfy IPS cadre aspirations for central postings, it risks subverting the very purpose CAPFs were created for, much like a UN losing focus when it prioritizes select nations over global principles.
The lesson: institutions succeed when they adhere to their founding purpose. CAPFs exist for India’s security, not as a career ladder. Compromising this is not just legal or administrative, it's strategic.
Bottom line: undermining CAPFs' mandate for short-term convenience mirrors the pitfalls of global organizations that drift from their original mission.
Purpose matters. Always.

Samajwadi Party MP Ramgopal Yadav raises the CAPF issue in Rajya Sabha. MHA is all set to introduce a bill in Parliament to negate a SC ruling on giving organised services stature to CAPF officers and stop IPS deputation in CAPFs upto IG level in the next two years.
