Members of the #OttawaOPP, #OPPAVIATION, #OPPAuxiliary, and @OttawaPolice Road Safety Unit and West District Traffic took part in a joint traffic initiative on Monday, September 7th. The joint initiative was part of the OPP's Labour Day long weekend traffic safety campaign. In total, 46 charges were laid, including six Criminal Code charges and six drivers charged with #StuntDriving. One driver was stopped for travelling at 204 Km/h! A motorcycle rider who was caught travelling at 182 Km/h, initially fled police, but was tracked by the OPP plane. They also only had an M1 licence and were prohibited from driving on 400 series highways. Another driver faces #ImpairedDriving related charges after being involved in a single vehicle collison. A reminder that those charged with stunt driving receive an immediate 30-day driving suspension and a 14-day vehicle impound. Those charged with impaired driving receive an automatic 90-Day driving suspension and a 7-day vehicle impound.

Des membres de la Police provinciale de l'Ontario,de aviation de la Police provinciale de l'Ontariode, l'Auxiliaire, ainsi que de l'unité de sécurité routière et de la section de la circulation du district Ouest du Service de police d'Ottawa, ont participé à une opération conjointe de sécurité routière le lundi 7 septembre. Cette initiative s'inscrivait dans le cadre de la campagne de sécurité routière de l'OPP pour le long week-end de la fête du Travail. Au total, 46 accusations ont été portées, dont six en vertu du Code criminel et six contre des conducteurs pour Conduite Dangereuse (ou « conduite acrobatique »). Un conducteur a été intercepté alors qu'il roulait à 204 km/h ! Un motocycliste, surpris à 182 km/h, a d'abord tenté d'échapper à la police avant d'être repéré par l'avion de l'OPP ; il ne détenait qu'un permis de catégorie M1, ce qui lui interdisait de circuler sur les autoroutes de la série 400. Un autre conducteur fait face à des accusations liées à la conduite avec facultés affaiblies après avoir été impliqué dans une collision impliquant un seul véhicule. Rappelons que les personnes accusées de conduite dangereuse (ou acrobatique) se voient imposer une suspension immédiate du permis de conduire de 30 jours et une mise en fourrière du véhicule de 14 jours. Celles accusées de conduite en état d'intoxication subissent une suspension automatique du permis de 90 jours et une mise en fourrière du véhicule de 7 jours.

Over a two night period, beginning on August 12th, #OttawaOPP, #OPPTIME, supported by #OPPAviation, conducted traffic enforcement in the City of Ottawa. Over 50 charges were laid, including eight drivers charged for #StuntDriving. Those charged with stunt driving had their licences suspended for 30 days and had their vehicles impounded for 14 days. They now face a minimum $2,000 fine, six demerit points and one year driving prohibition upon conviction. Slow down. Drive safe.

I want to acknowledge the coordinated efforts of #GreyBruceOPP officers, emergency response partners and #OPPAviation, whose rapid response ensured everyone was brought to safety. This incident highlights the unpredictable and dangerous nature of unsafe ice conditions and the importance of following #PublicSafety advisories.

Je voudrais rendre hommage aux efforts coordonnés des membres du détachement de Grey Bruce de la #PoliceProvinciale, de nos partenaires des services d’intervention d’urgence ainsi que des Services d’aviation de la Police provinciale qui, en répondant rapidement à l’urgence, se sont assurés que tout le monde puisse être ramené en lieu sûr. Cet incident souligne la nature imprévisible et dangereuse de la glace et l’importance de respecter les consignes de #SécuritéPublique.
UPDATE: #GreyBruceOPP officers along with several emergency partners and #OPPaviation rescued a total of 23 individuals that found themselves on ice that separated from shore. Winds and current moved the ice shelf away from shore approximately two kilometers. Two #OPP helicopters picked up and transported all 23 to safety. This became a life-threatening situation for several of the people due to hypothermia. All are expected to make a full recovery.

On the nights of September 10th and 11th, members of the #OttawaOPP, #OPPTIME Team, #OPPAVIATION, and Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, conducted a traffic safety initiative, which resulted in nearly 80 charges being laid for driving related offences. This included no less than four G2 drivers being charged for #StuntDriving, including one travelling at 206km/h! Several motorcycles were seized, including one that was observed travelling at 189km/h, driven by a #SuspendedDriver, who also did not have insurance and was not properly licenced to drive a motorcycle. Several motorists also face criminal charges for Dangerous Operation. The #OPP will continue their efforts to ensure Ontario roads are kept safe for everyone. #OttTraffic ^mf

As part of the Motorcycle Safety Awarenes Week, #OttawaOPP, together with #OPPAVIATION, conducted traffic safety enforcement on May 5th. A total of 25 Provincial Offences charges were laid. The rider of this motorcycle faces criminal charges after fleeing a traffic stop. The motorcycle had been identified by the plane as travelling at 143km/h on #Hwy417. The rider initially stopped for police and then fled the stop at high speeds. The rider was tracked to his residence, where his motorcycle was seized. He later turned himself into police. As a result, the driver faces the following charges:
• Flight From Police x2
• Dangerous Operation
• #StuntDriving
Police also charged three drivers for operating a vehicle without insurance.

On April 20/25, #SouthPorcOPP responded to an overdue snowmobiler on Horwood Lake, approx 70 kms west of Timmins. The search is on-going with the assistance of #OPPAviation #OPPERT and OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit. Further details will be released once available. ^ms
A joint operation on September 20th between @OPP and @OttawaPolice resulted in a total of 49 charges. #OttawaOPP, #OPPTIME, #OPPAVIATION, as well as members of the #OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, conducted traffic enforcement along #Hwy417 and other city roads in an effort to promote road safety, after continuing to see an increase in #StuntDriving related offences. Seven drivers were charged with Stunt Driving, including two individuals who had previous convictions for Stunt Driving. One individual charged had been also been charged by police in September 2022, during a similar operation involving the OPP plane. That court case concluded in January 2024. One driver was held in custody pending a bail hearing. #SlowDown #RoadSafety #OttTraffic ^mf
#OPPTIME and #OPPAviation took to the skies this long weekend on #HWY401 in East Region. Officers laid numerous charges for #Speeding to support #CRSW2024. This novice motorcycle rider was caught #stuntdriving at 152 km/h and splitting lanes. DL & bike seized ^js
3 people rescued from the frigid waters of Lake Simcoe after venturing onto unsafe ice, resulting in the collapse of their side-by-side through the unstable surface. While #OPPAviation offered aerial support, excellent rescue efforts by @RamaFireRescue allowed for a happy ending.
#LambtonOPP recently charged a 21 y/o from Petrolia with #StuntDriving after observing the vehicle from an #OPPAviation helicopter at over 130 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. Automatic license suspension, vehicle impoundment and court. Obey speed limits and other rules of the road. ^jb
