💛partners 💛 Thank you super @LeftLion for our latest object walk. Taking @JusticeMuseum out to where people are. Object by object. New perspectives on museum collections #LanternSlides #ObjectWalks #ObjectWalk #museum #community #conversation #creativity #Nottingham

Oh how we love @LeftLion Thank you for sharing the ‘swallowed objects’ from the @JusticeMuseum collection. These objects are challenging in lots of ways and a ‘hidden’ story worthy of sharing #ObjectWalks #LeftLion @Blendnottingham #Museum #encounter #collection #nottingham

honoured to join a special event with lovely people of Strelley and partners @nottmcityhomes @evolvenotts Hearing thoughts about this heart in a cage will shape our next Ingenuity workshop #ObjectWalks #coproduction #community #NJMIngenuity #creativity #LetsCreate

It was an absolute pleasure to experiment with @LeftLion taking #ObjectWalks to Zoom! Twisting it up to test an @NJMIdeas workshop idea. Gorgeous objects that deserve the love, crafted in prisons. Thank you @ECIllustrates and @arcarter88 #JusticeIdeas #Describe #draw #Nottingham

The hands of super maker Graham Elstone ‘drawing talking’. Yes, we are developing bespoke panniers for a ‘make it yours’ bicycle @JusticeMuseum #Creativity #MuseumOnTheMove #MakeItYours #NJMIdeas #JusticeIdeas #NJMIngenuity #Ingenuity #ObjectWalks #community #coproduction

We love this toy car, which was made in a UK prison. It would have been crafted in a workshop. 🎨 On our #ObjectWalks, we would often ask our visitors whether they'd gift a present like this, knowing where it came from. What are your thoughts? Does it matter to you? 🤔

@SimonIanBrown @MuseumofOxford @MuseumWeek lovely to see this, can't wait for our design to move into making stage #objectWalks #MuseumOnTheRoad
See pg 47 for #ObjectWalks feature. I spoke to @andreanhj of @JusticeMuseum and @arcarter88 about a bludgeon seized from Bloody Sunday protestors and ceremonially handed to police in Tipperary "for future use to squelch all malcontents"

It was a thrill but quite poignant to hold this object and chat to @andreanhj and @LeftLion for their #ObjectWalks piece this month.
so good to get our hands on Sept edition of @LeftLion The best #nottingham magazine in the world. And this regular @JusticeMuseum treat on the last page #objectWalks has made our day #MuseumOnTheRoad #artefacts #opinions #bludgeon

We're taking an object out of museum stores onto the streets of #Nottingham every month with @LeftLion team. What would you like us to take and where? People outside the museum shape what happens inside the museum #ObjectWalks #MuseumOnTheRoad @JusticeMuseum

We took this epaulette from our collection to ThunderCat Studio pre-lockdown to find out more about what crowns symbolise in the art of tattooing. Did you know? Crowns are amongst the most popular tattoo designs! Do you have any tattoos? What do yours mean to you? #ObjectWalks👣

The keys have also been explored by visitors to our free weekly #MakeItYours workshops.
Artists from all media have helped our visitors to scrutinize these objects, to reflect on what they tell us about justice and the law. 🎨🤲🎭

These restraints are on display in our #ConstraintRestraint exhibition, ready for you to see when @justicemuseum reopens.
In the meantime you can see it on our website, alongside the insights we've heard from the public:

David from the Versus Arthritis support group in West Bridgford could feel how badly prisoners were treated when these were used 100 years ago.
He could see the difference in materials between then and now, but not in how prisoners are treated.

We’ve taken these restraints around Nottingham, speaking to people & asking how they feel to hold.
In one bookshop, Sam could immediately feel how heavy they were, and how painful they must be to wear. She couldn’t imagine police using them now.

We have lots of restraints like these at @justicemuseum. They’re mainly between 100 and 130 years old.
They were used to keep prisoners tied together, or sometimes chained to loops set in the walls of cells.
They’re made from very heavy cast iron.

Lockdown has sadly meant that we can’t continue our regular #ObjectWalks at @justicemuseum.
So we're taking it online instead!
Have you seen the ankle restraints in our #ConstraintRestraint exhibition?
