En el segundo día del Future Energy Summit @FEnergySummit Southern Cone 2025, realizado en Santiago de Chile, Andrés Rebolledo @AndresReboll, Secretario Ejecutivo de #OLADE, moderó el panel de apertura “La visión energética de los gobiernos en el Cono Sur”, con la participación de: Mauricio Bejarano @MauriBejarano, Viceministro de Minas y Energía de Paraguay @ViceMinas @mopcparaguay, Carmen García, Coordinadora de la Oficina de Relaciones Internacionales del Ministerio de Energía de Chile y Antonio Milanese, Subsecretario de Transición y Planeamiento Energético de Argentina.
Durante el panel, se abordaron los principales desafíos y oportunidades del sector energético en la región:
🔹 Paraguay destacó la necesidad de diversificar su matriz de generación ante el crecimiento acelerado de la demanda eléctrica, impulsado por industrias emergentes, trabajando en marcos normativos y en incentivos para autogeneración y cogeneración.
🔹 Chile presentó sus metas de largo plazo hacia una matriz más renovable al 2030 y libre de emisiones al 2050, subrayando la importancia de la integración regional, la armonización regulatoria y el fortalecimiento de la transmisión, junto con el impulso al hidrógeno verde y la electromovilidad.
🔹 Argentina expuso su proceso de normalización del mercado energético tras años de subsidios y regulaciones, avanzando hacia un esquema más competitivo, con énfasis en generación térmica y renovable, y en la gestión de la demanda para garantizar seguridad energética.

On the second day of the Future Energy Summit Southern Cone 2025, held in Santiago, Chile, Andrés Rebolledo, Executive Secretary of OLADE, moderated the opening panel “The Energy Vision of Governments in the Southern Cone”, with the participation of Mauricio Bejarano, Vice Minister of Mines and Energy of Paraguay, Carmen García, Head of the International Relations Office at Chile’s Ministry of Energy and Antonio Milanese, Undersecretary of Energy Transition and Planning of Argentina
During the panel, key challenges and opportunities for the energy sector in the region were discussed:
🔹 Paraguay highlighted the need to diversify its generation matrix amid rapidly growing electricity demand driven by emerging industries, working on regulatory frameworks and incentives for self-generation and cogeneration.
🔹 Chile presented its long-term goals toward an 80% renewable electricity mix by 2030 and a zero-emission matrix by 2050, emphasizing regional integration, regulatory harmonization, and strengthening transmission, along with promoting green hydrogen and electromobility.
🔹 Argentina outlined its process of normalizing the energy market after years of subsidies and regulations, moving toward a more competitive framework with a focus on thermal and renewable generation and demand management to ensure energy security.

#OLADE pone en marcha el curso “Metano y clima: La ciencia del metano y su contribución al cambio climático”, una iniciativa que busca fortalecer las capacidades técnicas en la región para enfrentar uno de los mayores retos climáticos: la reducción de emisiones de metano.
Durante la apertura, Gloria Alvarenga @GalvarengaG , Directora de Integración, Acceso y Seguridad Energética de #OLADE, subrayó la relevancia de este tema para la región: “La reducción de las emisiones se considera una de las estrategias más efectivas para poder limitar el calentamiento global a corto plazo y para poder cumplir los compromisos climáticos en diversos sectores y generar también múltiples beneficios sociales, múltiples beneficios también económicos y sobre todo ambientales”

#OLADE launches the course “Methane and Climate: The Science of Methane and Its Contribution to Climate Change,” an initiative aimed at strengthening technical capacities in the region to address one of the greatest climate challenges: reducing methane emissions.
During the opening session, Gloria Alvarenga, Director of Integration, Access and Energy Security at #OLADE, emphasized the importance of this topic for the region: “Reducing emissions is considered one of the most effective strategies to limit global warming in the short term, meet climate commitments across sectors, and generate multiple social, economic, and above all, environmental benefits.”
This course, developed within the framework of the Latin America and Caribbean Methane Emissions Observatory (OM-LAC), provides a comprehensive overview of methane science, its impacts on climate change, and opportunities for its management in the region.

En el marco del proyecto Screen – ALC II, orientado a fortalecer la resiliencia del sector energético en #AméricaLatina y el #Caribe, #OLADE continúa promoviendo espacios de cooperación técnica y diálogo estratégico.
Fabio García, especialista de Estudios, Proyectos e Información de #OLADE, participó en una reunión de trabajo en el Ministerio de Energía y Minas de República Dominicana @energiayminasrd, abordando temas importantes para la planificación energética.
Posteriormente, se realizó una visita técnica a las instalaciones de la terminal de Gas Natural de AES Dominicana, donde se conocieron las capacidades operativas y los mecanismos que contribuyen a la seguridad del suministro energético en el país.

As part of the Screen – ALC II project, aimed at strengthening the resilience of the energy sector in #LatinAmerica and the #Caribbean, #OLADE continues to foster technical cooperation and strategic dialogue.
Fabio García, Specialist in Studies, Projects and Information at #OLADE, participated in a working meeting at the Ministry of Energy and Mines of the Dominican Republic, addressing key topics for energy planning. A technical visit was also carried out to the facilities of the AES Dominicana Natural Gas Terminal, where operational capacities and mechanisms that contribute to the security of the country’s energy supply were reviewed.
