Bokaro Steel Plant Organizes Finance & Cost Workshop for Senior Leadership

In a first of its kind, a one-day Finance and Cost Workshop for Chief General Managers (CGMs) from the Works Division of SAIL, Bokaro Steel Plant was organized at the Learning & Development Centre. The inaugural session of the workshop was graced by Shri Suresh Rangani, ED (Finance), Ms. Rajshree Banerjee, ED (HR), Shri CR Mishra, ED (MM), Shri A Sengupta, ED (Projects) and Shri Priya Ranjan, ED (Works).
This initiative, steered by the top management of SAIL-Bokaro Steel Plant, was designed to strengthen financial acumen among senior leadership of the Plant and to underscore the direct linkages between operational and strategic decisions with financial performance. Executive Director (Finance) Shri Rangani while addressing the participants in the inaugural session, reiterated the importance of the workshop for Chief General Managers who are at the forefront of taking strategic decisions on a regular basis which impact both the topline and bottomline of the plant and Company as a whole. Executive Director (HR) Ms Banerjee welcomed all and laid out the context of the programme. Executive Director (Works) Shri Priya Ranjan made a presentation on the current steel industry scenario and shared his thoughts at length on the opportunities and challenges for Bokaro Steel Plant.
The various sessions of the workshop were conducted by Shri NK Singh, Chief General Manager (Finance), BSL and Shri S. Mallick from the Management Training Institute (MTI), Ranchi. The programme was specially designed to go beyond mere classroom learning, incorporating interactive activities, case studies, and live problem-solving exercises to provide practical insights. With the theme “Linking Operational and Strategic Decisions to Financial Performance”, the programme focused on enabling senior executives to Interpret and connect key financial statements like Balance Sheet, P&L Statement, and Cash Flow, recognize cost drivers and their impact on profitability and ROI, understand working capital, capital structure, and their implications and apply financial insights for effective decision-making in a cyclical, capital-intensive industry like steel.
The sessions were structured to demonstrate how everyday managerial choices—from production and procurement to marketing and investment—translate into financial outcomes. Participants also engaged in group exercises aimed at action planning for improved decision-making.
This workshop reflects SAIL-Bokaro’s commitment to fostering a culture of leadership, capable of driving sustainable growth and enhancing shareholder value through financially sound strategic decisions. The vote of thanks was delivered by Chief General Manager (HR-L&D) Ms Neeta Baa while compering was done by AGM (HR-L&D) Shri Amit Anand.
