These statements affirmed the principle that Africa’s partnership with China must be anchored in unity, coordination and strategic foresight, and that the zero-tariff offer marks a decisive step towards strengthening Africa’s capacity to seize a critical opportunity to enhance trade, investment and development on the continent, by reinforcing continental coherence and coordination, establishing regional value chains, developing financing instruments and information-sharing platforms on market dynamics, scaling up production capacity, and harmonising standards and quality infrastructure, to better position Africa to realise the goals of Agenda 2063 and the FOCAC commitments.

The CEO of the COMESA Competition and Consumer Commission (Quad C), Dr Willard Mwemba, stated that the journey of the review of the COMESA Competition and Consumer Protection Regulations began in 2021. He stated that it was a journey of long days, long nights, endless board room and offsite meetings; and thanked everyone who contributed to the development of the law. Her Excellency the COMESA Secretary General, Chileshe Mpundu Kapwepwe, in her keynote address stated that competition and consumer protection regulations are critical mechanisms, enshrined under the COMESA Treaty, to support the achievement of COMESA’s objective of a single integrated market. The Executive Director of the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission of Zambia, Ms Eunice Hamavhwa, stated that the new Regulations constitute the first comprehensive revision of the Quad C's regulatory framework since its establishment in 2004.
