Congratulations to Lieutenant General #MaciejKlisz on his end of tour, commanding #OperationsCommand @DowOperSZ during a period of unprecedented and increasing danger to Poland/NATO.
As in other positions, Gen Klisz has excelled as a “Pathfinder” in this role, and he continues #LeadingTheWay for others to follow. This includes his latest appointment as the next Chief of Staff, to #NATO’s #JointForcesCommand #JFCBS, @NATOJFCBS, Brunssum, NLD, the most important headquarters for operations on NATO’s #EasternFront. Gen Klisz will serve in Brunssum at an important time, as in the near future, Poland will be part of the rotational 4-star command of JFCBS.
For decades, Gen Klisz has been a Pathfinder (both figuratively and actually) serving in key command and staff roles, leading groundbreaking initiatives, including establishment - alongside GEN #WiesławKukuła @wieslawkukula -
of Poland’s vital Territorial Defense Forces #TDF #WOT @TDFORCE_Poland. Today, the TDF plays a crucial role in Poland’s total armed forces approach to defense, and whole of government approach to #NationalResilience.
At #OperationsCommand #OPSCOM @DowOperSZ, Gen Klisz was the right commander at the right time, leading 🇵🇱’s most important command responsible for early warning and monitoring of threats, coordinating war plans, readying the armed forces for war, and commanding operations during crisis and war.
During his command of OPSCOM, Russia continued its brutal war on Ukraine, while increasing hybrid warfare on Poland and other Allies, including border attacks and sabotage operations against Poland. For the first time since WWII, Gen Klisz undertook the momentous decision for Poland to execute kinetic operations against an enemy attacking inside of Poland (Russia’s drone attack on Poland, Sept 2025).
It’s no surprise that Gen Klisz is a “Superior” graduate of the U.S. #ArmyWarCollege #AWC @us_awc, and a number of other prestigious 🇵🇱, 🇺🇸, and international courses. Gen Klisz has finished some of the U.S. Army’s most challenging and elite courses including U.S. Army Airborne School, and of course, the 🇺🇸Army Pathfinder Course. Pathfinders’ have as their motto, “Semper Primus,” - “Always First” (fitting for Gen Klisz).

Dla Dowództwa Operacyjnego RSZ jest to moment podsumowania blisko trzech lat służby dowódcy, który kierował działaniami w okresie szczególnie wymagającym dla bezpieczeństwa Polski i regionu. Był to czas wysokiej gotowości, dynamicznie zmieniającej się sytuacji bezpieczeństwa oraz intensywnej współpracy z sojusznikami.
Dziękujemy Panu Generałowi za wspólną służbę, odpowiedzialne przywództwo oraz zaangażowanie na rzecz bezpieczeństwa państwa. Za decyzje podejmowane z myślą o żołnierzach i skutecznej realizacji powierzonych zadań. Za konsekwentne budowanie i utrzymywanie gotowości operacyjnej Sił Zbrojnych RP i przypominanie, że bezpieczeństwo nie jest stanem osiąganym raz na zawsze, lecz zobowiązaniem realizowanym każdego dnia.

Polish soldiers, far from home send Christmas greetings to their families and countrymen. Even if you don’t understand Polish, you can understand the heartfelt sentiment and commitment to duty expressed by these 🇵🇱troops. It’s good to remember too, that as a frontline Ally, thousands more 🇵🇱 ActiveDuty, Territorial soldiers, BorderGuards and more, also must miss Christmas with family as they defend their homeland.
It’s hard to imagine NATO/the West without Poland. Not long ago there were many - not just Russia - against securing Poland and her EastFlank neighbors away from Russia’s orbit - in NATO. A major argument used at the time: “Poland will become a Security-Consumer, never much of a valuable Security-Provider.” Poland actually turned that argument on its head, even before joining NATO. It’s the same tired argument many use about securing Ukraine’s future, when Ukraine - practically alone - has held off the vaunted nuclear-armed “unstoppable Russian superpower,” for almost 11 years.
Look to Poland as an example. Once in NATO, Poland becomes a standard-bearer in security/defense and supporting deployed operations. Regarding NATO’s Article III “Self-Defense” clause, Poland is the model to which all others need to aspire. Poland puts its “money where its mouth is,” in building the strongest defense capabilities in Europe to defend Poland, and the Alliance.
Poland is defending NATO’s frontline, already sustaining multiple aerial attacks, near misses and continuous sabotage orchestrated by Russia. That’s why it’s truly remarkable the role Poland plays in international collective security in Europe and beyond. Poland is handling multiple missions with soldiers deployed to Lebanon, Romania, Latvia, Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iraq, Turkey, Central African Republic, and on Baltic Sea and Mediterranean Sea Security missions.
Poles have a centuries-old motto which they clearly up to, even still today, “We Fight #ForYourFreedomAndOurs #FYFAO

Odznaczenie to stanowi wyraz najwyższego uznania za wybitną i wieloletnią służbę na rzecz bezpieczeństwa Polski oraz wzmacniania strategicznego sojuszu polsko–amerykańskiego. Pułkownik Wojcik, w trakcie ponad trzech dekad służby w Armii Stanów Zjednoczonych – z czego znaczną część spędził w Polsce – odegrał kluczową rolę w rozwijaniu współpracy wojskowej obu państw. On behalf of the President of the Republic of Poland, the Polish Operational Commander, Lieutenant General Maciej Klisz, awarded Colonel (ret.) Raymond Paul Wojcik with the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
This distinction represents the highest recognition of his outstanding and long-standing service to the security of Poland and the strengthening of the Polish–American alliance. During more than three decades of service in the United States Army – much of it in Poland – Colonel Wojcik played a pivotal role in deepening military cooperation between our two nations. Even after retiring from active duty, he has continued to foster closer Polish–American ties and to honor our shared history.
This award underlines the importance and durability of the cooperation between the Republic of Poland and the United States in the field of security and our joint responsibility for peace.

#OperationsCommand #OPSCOM has Poland🇵🇱’s air defense system on high alert. OPSCOM is Poland’s war-fighting command, akin to a 🇺🇸 geographic #CombatantCommand #COCOM. A key difference is that unlike most 🇺🇸 geo-COCOMs, OPSCOM handles both deployed forces abroad, and defense of the homeland (ie, a very busy command).
