The children are praying & counting in Ibani, a language at risk of extinction. They’re assembled in my grandpa’s parlor in a house he built in 1936. The head librarian is spearheading this cultural revitalization. My heart is full. #OpoboLibraryInitiative #EmmaJohnsonDirigoWari
My dad, HRH Alabo Professor Dagogo Michael Fubara, made his first visit to the #EmmaJohnsonDirigoWari (library). It was after hours, but the librarians accommodated him. After all, he is donating the space. Thank you for the support, Alabo. #OpoboLibraryInitiative
Ibani lessons have commenced at the #EmmaJohnsonDirigoWari. My heart is so full. #OpoboLibraryInitiative
The #EmmaJohnsonDirigoWari library is on fire. Our chief librarian has added Ibani language classes on Tuesdays and Fridays. Ibani is the language of the Ijo peoples from Bonny and Opobo that is on the verge of extinction. #WeAreSavingUs #Ibani #OpoboLibraryInitiative
If you contributed to the #EmmaJohnsonDirigoWari I honor you. When you see these kids reading/listening to books being read to them, think, where would they be and what would they be doing if this library didn’t exist? You’re a lifesaver. Thank you.❤️#OpoboLibraryInitiative

One of our goals with the #EmmaJohnsonDirigoWari is to advance Ibani/Opobo culture. Tonight, during our first monthly game night, Mama Gloria shared Igbo folktales with the kids. You can hear them in a call and response with her. #opobolibraryinitiative
1st week for the E.J Dirigo Wari (library) ended with a game night for our most frequent patrons. Kids enjoyed games and Igbo folk tales in a larger community space. This will occur monthly. #grateful #opobolibraryinitiative #emmajohnsondirigowari Photo credit: Moses Eyo
Today is the 25th Anniversary of World Book Day. The library is open and the kids have shown up again en masse. This year's theme: “You are a reader.” Look at all these readers. @BHMatter @SankofaDC #opobolibraryinitiative #EmmaJohnsonDirigoWari
Day 3: The word is spreading and more children are showing up every day. Today, we had to put some of them in an overflow room. They are devouring the books. Beautiful to behold. #opobolibraryinitiative #emmajohnsondirigowari

T-1 Met with His Majesty the Amanyanabo (King) Dandison Jaja of Opobo and received his blessings. Definitely have to revise my expectations of the space downwards for now. Painter is still at it at 8:45 pm. The electrician may have Covid. #opobolibraryinitiative
