#CleanPool runs on Hyrdapool, which is a #p2poolv2 PPLNS payout scheme. This means payouts are made directly from the coinbase, so the operator (me) never custodies any funds; when the pool solves a block, everyone holding shares in the window is paid straight from the coinbase to their own address.
So it's trustless #PPLNS: no operator balance, no minimum payout, and your slice of each solved block scales with your share of the recent hashrate.
Running centralised services is hard. Most of the world uses services like cloudflare to resist ddos attacks. We at bitcoin don't want to depend on third party services like cloudflare. Most centralised pools do.

The DDoS appears to finally be over, though I have seen them come and go in the past. This is the longest DDoS I've ever seen on the pool. Those who failed over appear to have fallen back seamlessly to the main pool. Mine on, and let's get this stubborn next block!

We switched #P2Poolv2 from libp2p's Gossipsub to Bitcoin P2P in the early days.
Why?
Shares are latency-sensitive.
Gossipsub limits eager forwarding to a small mesh and relies on gossip repair, which can add propagation delay.
Bitcoin’s P2P relay is simpler and more deterministic, optimized for adversarial, time-critical block propagation.
For a sharechain, lower variance and faster convergence > pubsub flexibility.

@heavilyarmedc Spoiler alert, StratumV2 doesn't decentralize mining either. It relies on the same centralized architecture that Ocean does. Custom templates are irrelevant if pool operators can unilaterally reject your shares.
The only decentralized pool concepts are @braidpool and #P2poolv2.
