"The economic cost to society of not effectively treating perinatal mental illness far outweighs the cost of providing appropriate services." - @MMHAlliance https://t.co/QzpawEhMvk @fordnation @celliottability @OntarioPCParty #PASSBILL176

Screening is also a basic first step (that isn’t done regularly in ON) & if further assessment or intervention doesn’t take place beyond that, suffering is increased! #passbill176 so you can see the gaps in screening AND assessment @fordnation @celliottability @OntarioPCParty

Our focus on age as THE critical variable in mental health has resulted in a focus on infants mental health with less than a cursory reference to mothers. #PASSBILL176

I have been in this very place so many times! Perhaps if I’d had support earlier in my illness, I would have been able to return to work & I wouldn’t have lost my job as a result. #passbill176 tomorrow @fordnation @celliottability @OntarioPCParty

Yes, it's unbelievable how far Canada lags behind these countries when it comes to #PerinatalMentalHealth awareness and services. @fordnation @celliottability @OntarioPCParty #PASSBILL176

1 in 5 women will suffer from a #pmad and up to 85% will go untreated! This has significant, long-term effects on moms, babies & ultimately our society at large! #passbill176 so we can THINK UPSTREAM and provide basic care! 3/3

Sadly, as a white, married, upper-middle class woman who works in healthcare... I saw firsthand how difficult it was to access services I needed, when I was suffering from #postpartumdepression. If you don’t #passbill176, so many who are less privileged will suffer! 2/3

Hey @fordnation @celliottability & @OntarioPCParty... you claim there are services in place for moms but have you ever actually looked into what it’s like to access? That’s exactly what will happen if you #passbill176! Then maybe you’ll see the gaps that exist! 1/3
