@English_Tchr101 A5: Absolutely! We read an article about the volcano eruption in HI in #ScholasticNews. The Ss were immediately more compassionate towards the people suffering after reading than they were when previewing the article. It was evident in their discussion and reactions. #PCPSChatDT

@English_Tchr101 A4: I’d like to say I am not. We use @ScholasticNews weekly to discuss current events and credible sources to help combat this social media news world. #PCPSChatDT

@English_Tchr101 A2: If reading is devalued, we will have citizens that are less informed, less open to different viewpoints, less compassionate, and less able to contribute to society. You can't learn about people, places, and issues outside of yourself if you aren't reading. #PCPSChatDT

@English_Tchr101 A1: This is a question that I really have not asked before. I feel that I tend to ask more questions regarding how they relate to the text or what the text makes them think of more often. This is definitely something that I will think about more and will do more! #PCPSChatDT

@English_Tchr101 A1 Sadly, I can’t say I’ve ever thought to ask my students this question. We’ve discussed text to self connections, but I’m guilty of being more focused on comprehension and skills. I’m inspired to change that.#PCPSChatDT

@English_Tchr101 A3: When scaffolding our instruction with responsive reading, I think it would be beneficial to not only model, but also collect an ongoing list of evoked responses: amusement, curiosity, surprise, doubt, etc...so students have an understanding of expectations. #PCPSChatDT

@MrsInnerb @English_Tchr101 Invite me in next time, I would love to hear how reading about the lives of people in history has a possible impact on how the students view themselves or their own impact on the world (in 3rd grade perspective) 😉 #PCPSChatDT
