PM CARES is one of the biggest institutional scams and betrayals of public trust by PM Modi. Why is the Modi government collecting money from both domestic and foreign contributors in the name of emergency relief, when it has no intention of spending it when it matters? The 2024-25 audit statement of the PM CARES Fund shows that out of ₹8,452 crore available, only 0.01% has been utilised. There are also some questionable entries, like ₹324 crore refunded by implementing agencies, with no clarity on who these agencies are or why the money was refunded. Even more suspiciously, the accompanying notes to the financial statement have been omitted. This fund was set up in March, 2020, as a response to handle emergency and distress situations. Since then, India has seen the horrors of COVID, major cyclones, devastating floods in states like Kerala and Himachal Pradesh and now severe drought and distress across parts of the country. Not using money meant for relief while people suffer is plain cruel.

Finally the audit statement of PMCARES Fund for 2024-25 has been made public! Key highlights- -Utilised only 0.01% of available ₹ 8,452 crore! Why is the PMCARES Fund keeping such large sums of money idle? -324 crore was refunded by implementing agencies- but no info on what these payments were for and why these were refunded? Which agency refunded? Were refunds done to evade accountability for faulty equipment? -Why have accompanying notes to the audit report not been uploaded? A fund set up to help citizens during disasters, which has accumulated thousands of crores (including from foreign sources), is shrouded in secrecy. Still no information available on sources of funds. The PMCARES Fund continues to evade public scrutiny by refusing to submit itself to the RTI Act.
