@PathtoRead Classwide interventions are the aspect of an RTI system that is most often overlooked and is often most important. We run classwide reading interventions for 10 school days and then reassess. If needed, we continue them for another 5 school days. #PRESSChats @amandavande1

@saraolsonTRF Most assessment systems have a required window. If not, then it is best to collect it within the first month. You can possibly wait for kindergarten though. Other thoughts on this? #PRESSChats
@saraolsonTRF @teachthomps We looked at the data and found that the difference was not great in kindergarten. In other words, kindergarteners who did or did not get the intervention did about as well until about November. We often do not start reading interventions until then. #PRESSChats
The research is clear on early intervention, but I always wonder about the balance of early intervention and students that don't have exposure. #presschats
@saraolsonTRF Graphs!!! It is difficult to avoid jargon, so I try to use words that the parents can follow, but it is hard to beat the interpretability of a well-designed line graph and trend line. I don't use them when consuming the data by the team, but definately with parents. #PRESSChats

@saraolsonTRF @PathtoRead By helping each understand what the other does and having specific roles. Special ed teachers are experts in precisely targeting deficits, and general ed teachers are experts in instruction across all areas of reading. Also, working with both to undertand the data #PRESSChats
@PathtoRead Federal law allows for special education personnel to engage in prevention and early intervention. They can sit on data teams, and deliver tier 2 or tier 3 interventions. Problem-solving teams are also more effective if a sped teacher is on them. #PressChats
@burnsmk1 Do you have any suggestions for how a special ed teacher can be involved when a student is not yet receiving sped services? #PRESSchats
@PathtoRead #RTI came out of special education. Any kid getting special education is getting a tier 3 intervention, but many kids get a tier 3 intervention that are not getting special education. I also like to see spec ed personnel involved in teaming, and tier 2 and 3 interventions.
