🇮🇳 | 61 Years Ago, India Knocked On Lahore’s Door — Pakistan Still Hasn’t Learned The Lesson
“There comes a moment in the nation’s life when it has to stand up against a bully and teach him a good lesson.” — Y. B. Chavan, Defence Minister, 6 September 1965
On this day in 1965, India crossed the International Border and opened a major front towards Lahore.
Pakistan had begun the conflict by infiltrating Jammu & Kashmir through Operation Gibraltar, hoping to trigger an uprising. When that failed, Islamabad escalated with Operation Grand Slam towards Akhnoor.
Pakistan apparently forgot one rather important detail: Wars have a habit of travelling back to the person who starts them.
⚔️ 1. Pakistan’s Kashmir Gamble
In August 1965, Pakistan launched Operation Gibraltar, inserting armed infiltrators into Jammu & Kashmir in the hope that the local population would rise against India.
Instead, local residents reported the infiltrators to Indian authorities.
The gamble had failed.
Pakistan then escalated.
🎯 2. Grand Slam Opens The Door To Lahore
On September 1, Pakistan launched Operation Grand Slam, targeting Akhnoor with the objective of threatening India's communications and supply lines.
India responded by changing the geometry of the war.
Rather than allowing Pakistan to concentrate its strength in Jammu & Kashmir, India opened another front.
🇮🇳 3. Lahore Becomes The Pressure Point
Before dawn, Indian Army formations crossed the International Border towards Lahore. The objective was not to capture Lahore city.
It was to threaten the approaches towards the city and the Ichhogil Canal, forcing Pakistan to divert forces away from the Kashmir theatre.
In other words, Pakistan tried to make Kashmir India's problem. India made Lahore Pakistan's problem.
🧠 4. The Lesson Pakistan Keeps Repeating
The 1965 war offers an enduring lesson in proxy and limited-war strategy.
You cannot indefinitely assume that you can attack, infiltrate or escalate on one front while dictating where the adversary is allowed to respond.
Pakistan discovered that in 1965.
It continued pursuing variations of the same strategic logic for decades afterwards.
🎯 Strategic Lens
There is something almost comical about Pakistan's strategic memory.
Operation Gibraltar: Infiltrate Kashmir
Operation Grand Slam: Attack towards Akhnoor
Indian response: Fine. Let's talk about Lahore
Sixty-one years later, the geography has changed, the weapons have changed and the doctrines have evolved.
But the fundamental lesson remains: If you keep exporting conflict across the border, don't be surprised when the conflict comes looking for you.
Pakistan tried to turn Kashmir into its battlefield in 1965.
India simply widened the map.
🇮🇳 History has a funny way of repeating itself — especially when nobody in Rawalpindi bothers to read it.

The Indian soldier’s courage does not need manufactured victories or edited history. Documented sacrifice and battlefield performance speak for themselves. #PakTruth #IndianArmy #PakArmyExposed
